Hi,

Are you seeing a therapist, or someone you can talk to? A lot of times, people will cut because they feel like they can’t control much else–usually there is something bothering them under the surface trying to break out. Talking to a therapist is a good way to start the healing process.

Also, I have heard of the rubber band trick. Put a rubber band on your wrist and each time you think of cutting or something harmful like that, snap the rubber band. It will associate negativity with the thought.

your situation is almost like the situation i had a few years ago. my best friend and i were both cutters. you cant just decide one day you want to stop cutting and never do it again; its very much something that youve used to help you cope with in the past so (like youve found out) its very easy to stop for a while and have something trigger it again.

you should talk to a therapist but if youre like i was, i really didnt trust anyone i didnt already know and didnt want to talk to one. so the next thing to do is to find another friend who doesnt cut or a parent or family member or someone you trust to act as support for you; someone you can call or get into contact with when you feel like youre going to cut yourself or hurt yourself.

its good that youre trying to help your friend out but like you said, you can only be an example if youre not hurting yourself. ive also found that writing in journals everyday to just get the thoughts out of your head is pretty helpful so. good luck and be safe.

hey guys thanks for all the advice I havent cutt in 3 months but… my friend went too deep and almost killed herself she’s been hospitalized twice since I posted this question and she is living with my oldest sister because childrens services decided her abusive dad and alcoholic mom were un-fit parents and since her leagal gardean died my sister adopted her since she moved in she has only cutt once and has stayed out of the hospital I’m in group therapy twice a week with her and we’re both doing better so thanks again=]

I went through the same thing, best friend and all. I went to therapy and everything nothing helped. To this day I still give in once and a while. What really helped me though is going to a psychiatric hospital. I was in-patient for 8 days and out-patient for 2 and a half weeks. it sucked and I hated it but it ultimately helped a lot.

Are you depressed? Because if you are anti-depressants help with the urges too.
