How do I use a Line equation to graph a line?

the questions are

y= -3x + 6

y= 2x - 5

y= 1/2 × -3

y= -2/3 × 5/2

I have no idea how to do it.. :S

Answer #1

ok, lets find a few coordinates for these

  1. y= -3x + 6

when x= 0 y = -3 (0) + 6 y = 0 + 6 y = 6 (0,6)

when x = 1 y = -3 (1) + 6 y = -3 + 6 y = 3 (1, 3)

when x = -1 y = -3 (-1) + 6 y = 3 + 6 y = 9 (-1, 9)

just plot those points, and you should be able to form a line

  1. y= 2x - 5

when x= 0 y = 2 (0) - 5 y = 0 - 5 y = -5 (0, -5)

when x = 1 y = 2 (1) - 5 y = 2 - 5 y = -3 (1, -3)

when x = -1 y = 2 (-1) - 5 y = -2 - 5 y = -7 (1, -7)

just plot those points, and you should be able to form a line

now you do it

  1. y= 1/2 × -3

when x= 0 ( , )

when x = 1 ( , )

when x = -1 ( , )

just plot those points, and you should be able to form a line

  1. y= -2/3 × 5/2

when x= 0 ( , )

when x = 1 ( , )

when x = -1 ( , )

Answer #2

okay for the first one,go up 6 on the why axis,then the -3x is really over a 1 soo you would go down three on the axis,then up one from the positive 6 point on the why axis.lol it’s hard to understand. And for #2 go down to -5 on the y-axis,then over 2 to the right,and up one. Remember that the number at the end of the equation (y-intercept) is your starting point always graph it on the why axis.then just graph whatever is in front of the x from the point you plotted on the why axis lol goodluck! :)

Answer #3

For the first one: The slope is -3 and the y-intercept is 6. So you just plot the point (0,6) on the graph, and then from that point, go down three and right one. Plot the point.

Basically for these questions, you just have to plot the y-intercept, and then use the slope to plot the other point.

Just do this for the rest. I’m also doing this in school >.< Good luck , lol
