How can I get my dog to stop peeing in my cats room?
So I have had a silkie for about for years give or take. and at my old house, he was fine. he never peed/pooped in the house. but then we moved. and he has peed everywhere in this new house. and we have tried everything. weve rubbed his nose down in it, used things that repelled him from peeing there again(made him go pee somewhere else.) and just crating him… he goes through periods where hes good then horrible. and just recently I got a cat. and we put her stuff in the guest bdrm. and now my dog goes in there and pees. and I guess its him “marking his territory but its really getting annoying so HELP!!!1
Well, of course rubbing his nose in it doesn’t work…dogs have NO idea what you’re up to, except it’s very scary.
I think the cat room thing, you’ve hit on the head…he’s a terrier and they are very territorial, so he probably IS marking his turf. He probably was marking turf, when you fist moved, too. If someone who lived there before had a dog who peed inside, that would instictively make your dog want to mark over it…How truly housetrained was je really? Older dogs are able to fake it pretty good (the fact that they can hold it, makes it ‘appear’ that they’re housetrained when in fact they really don’t know what they did right or wrong…they just know things are going smooth :).
I’d have him Vet checked tho, for bladder problems (stones, infection), if you’re sure he was completely housetrained at the other house. If he’s fine, then go back into puppy mode. Crating when you can’t watch him, physically taking him out to do his business, and .praising like crazy when he goes…watching him like a hawk, to see the signals that he’s about to go. Keeping him in the same room with you at all times.
NO rubbing his face in it, tho…NO newpapers…unless you want to hit yourself over head, repeating ‘I did not watch the dog’…
