How can I get a 24 hr old kitten to poop?

My kitten was abandoned by her mother at birth(about 24hrs ago). She is extremely tiny, about half the size of the rest of the litter. She only ate 2ml of the replacement milk in the first 22hrs and ate 4ml an hour ago. I can stimulate her enough to pee small amounts at a time but still no #2.

Answer #1

use luke warm water and rub it gently on its rectum… like its mother usually would do…=)

Answer #2

So she won’t poop at all for a few weeks?

Answer #3

they dont poop unless theyv had a solid, which wont be for a couple of weeks

Answer #4

Ok, all of the above - wrong.

A newborn kitten still needs to void it’s bowels.

What you need to do is take a washcloth and dampen it with warm water (I’m assuming you know this, since you are getting it to urinate - the same goes for it’s bowels) . Gently rub the kitten’s bottom with the cloth to stimulate it to release it’s bowels and urine. You’ll need to do this several times a day until the kitten is old enough to void on it’s own. It may not need to void it’s bowels every time, but you still need to try.

Answer #5

Ichi, as always is correct. Everyone else is wrong.

You need to stimulate young kittens to eliminate urine and feces. They can’t do it on their own. To do this, use a damp cotton bal/clothl to gently rub the belly down to the genital area/rectum. This should cause the kitten to urinate and void its bowels.

Not having a bowel movement can be fatal.
