What would happen if everyone in any particular country had to take a test to make sure they knew enough about their country?

There would be a lot of failures…I’ll admit, I don’t know everything about my country - especially politically, as I have a fairly apathetic ideal when it comes to politics, and I’m certain there isn’t a person here who can answer all questions correctly.

A lot of people would be getting exiled. Haha.

I’m be sent somewhere else… All I know about this country is that George Bush is presendent and he’s doing a GREAT job :D Lol… Just kidding :P

People would be pissed off their government is wasting tax dollars on it.

I think the majority of people would fail such a test. In fact they wouldn’t even know which country the test is about.

I’m not sure why I should necessarily know what someone else thinks is imperative to know. I believe it is important to have a good understanding of history… so as to not allow the mistakes of the past to be revisited… but that is subjective because perhaps different people have different opinions on what should be retained and what should be avoided. Requiring people to be indoctrinated with a state sanctioned history lesson feels a little bit cult-like to me. History… despite the fact that it is written in the annals of time… is very much subject to the bias of those retelling it. In the service of liberty… it is always better to allow for the revisionists… nothing should be outside the realm of question.

The Australian government stipulates all new immigrants have to do a test about “Australia” before they are even considered as ideal applicants. I don’t know about you, I wouldn’t be able to answer some of the questions that were on the test let alone provide a list of all former or reigning Prime Ministers Etc… Mind you, most people tend to know other people’s countries’ landmarks, lifestyle, who’s who of society, more than they know theirs.
