Guitars strings...

Is there any real reason why I shouldn’t use Electric Guitar strings on my acoustic? My D-string broke and I don’t have time or money to get new strings but I have a pair of Electric strings in the package still. Should I just use those?

Answer #1

Never mind, I got some Martin Strings from a friend. Thanks tho, Now I know for the future. :)

Answer #2

They’ll buzz horribly, and they won’t be as loud, either.

Answer #3

plus you do need a heavier gauge for acoustic cause thats where the tone relli lies usually for acoustics people prefer .11+ so yeah take the time off and get the acoustic restringed with well acoustic strings :D

Answer #4

You can, but the tone will suffer. When you put them on an acoustic guitar they give off a sort of twang. This is because electric guitar strings are made to interact with magnetic pickups, whereas acoustic strings are made to rely on vibrations (and that’s also why they’re usually treated with bronze or phosphor).
