Who can tell me if my 8 year old german shepherd is overweight?

I haven’t walked him alot :\ so for now on he is going for walks everyday after school,a new diet dog food,and diet supplements .

he deosnt look over weight but just to get him more healthy i suggest you change the food he eats. hope i helped!

He looks slightly overweight to me. We’ve had German Shephards all our life. Best thing would be to ask your vet if you can, just to weigh him and tell you whether he is overweight.

In any case, new dog food and some exercise should have him healthy again. Looks like you are on the right track.

A way to tell if a dog (any breed) is overweight is to look at their waist. When the dog is standing on all four legs you should be able to see their waist just in front of their hind legs. You should be able to see the dogs body’s curve in from their rib cage. However, looking at your german shepard he does look overweight. Also, the fact that he is 8 is a good indicator of weight gain. The older the dog gets the harder it is for them to lose weight.

He looks to be a little over weight. Maybe 5-10 pounds over. At eight years you can feed him a senior diet..which is lighter.
