Are there any foods I can feed my small dog that will be healthy, other than dog food?

I plan on feeding my small dog twice a day with dog food. However, I would like to feed it something else between feedings, like a snack. I know feeding dogs table scraps isn’t healthy…so I’m not doing that.

Are there any vegetables, or other foods that would be good to give my dog as a snack?

fruit and veg

Chicken and carrots in chicken broth with no salt or seasoning is what I feed my pooch for dinner. I let him eat carrots, he loves them because dogs like sweet stuff.

We feed our dogs a homemade food (as commercial dog food is full of preservatives/chemicals). It is a mix of meat/vegeatable /starch (rice or oatmeal). As treats we give them raw bones (They also keep teeth clean). Walmart actually has some good dog biscuits we use for training. They are human grade orgainc ingredients and contain no wheat or corn (wheat and corn give dogs the farts and corn is nothing but filler that dogs can’t process). They have them in tiny dog size.

Many of the fruits and veggies are great for dogs, but too much fruits can make them constipated.

What are some good meals/combination’s I can make for my dog? I don’t want her to get fat from human food,…but if I can feed her human food that is good for her, then that would be great.

We make dog food once a week. Its 40% meat (lean ground beef/ chicken/roast etc.) 30% vegeatbles (usually carrots) and 30% starch (brown rice or oatmeal). Our boys love it (we have a pug, a Chihuahua nad a Rottie/Shepherd) and are in perfect shape. We stopped feeding commercial food about two years ago when I researched it and found out how bad it is (unless you buy the extremely high quality/expensive stuff). There are tons of people food that are good for dogs (There are a few that are dangerous/deadly). I will funmail you an article I wrote on dog food, I think it will help you alot. Congrats on the new dog! : )
