what are the best foods for a dog when she is whelping her puppies?

what is the best foods I can give my dog she has just had 6 puppies she is not fussed on puppie food dry biscuits, she likes chicken but I know she needs plenty of healthy foods while she is feeding her young she is a 2 year old shi tzu im going to try the wet puppie food but any help from here would be appreciated, she is doing well for a first time mum and so are her pups,

Call your vet and ask them…they should be able to help you better.

I wouldn’t do wet food unless, she is used to getting wet food..otherwise all she’ll get is diahrea. You can feed her boiled chicken and some cooked rice, covered with water..that is nutritious, its what we feed our dog even when she is not pg. Just make sure that she always has some kind of food in her bowl, nursing puppies take a lot of energy out of their mother. Also stay away from human dairy foods. If she just had the puppies you have to take the food to her and help her eat, cause she probably won’t want to leave the puppies for a few days.

Puppy food is the best to feed when nursing. I used Science diet wet puppy food mixed with small bits dry for my chihuahua. You should talk to your vet. When you take the litter in to be checked and have there deworming and or vaccines talked to him about what to feed mom and the babies when you ween them.
