Is there a home remedy for fluid in a dog's ear canal?

My Border Collie has fluid in his ears. When you lift his ears and rub on his head you hear fluid. He also shakes his head a lot. I’m assuming it is in his canal. What home remedy can I do?

My rott was the same way. I heard fluid sloshing around when I rubbed his ear vigorously. I finally relented and went to a vet. There actually is fluid in the ear: It’s an infection.

My rott had both a yeast growing and a bacterial infection. I had used hydrogen peroxide and the vet said that made it worse as when the bubbles stop, all that is left is water and the water allows the condition to grow.

I have to clean his ear daily with an ear wash and a good rubbing to try to flush out the problem. Plus there is an ointment that I have to put in to get rid of the yeast.

If your dog has only an infection, get some ear wash, flood the ear and rub deep just like you did to hear the fluid sound. Then clean with a cotton ball. This will flush out the infection.

I have the same problem and have been to three vets with no success. One said it was mites and cleared it up for a couple of months, one said it was an infection and cleared up for one month then one said it was allergies. After changing out every ingredient possible and even making his food from scratch (gross)many different times even giving him benedril. None of it worked. So if something works you let me know! I know this is awful…I feel bad for my sweet boy!

Same here. 3 yr old Rottweiler. I rub his right ear and can hear the fluid. He shakes his head afterwards. He has never been near water. I’ve been cleaning the ear as best I can with Q=tips two and three times a day thinking I will find something. Nothing. There was little wax and little dirt the first couple of times. Hope someone posts a definitive answer.

This may not be fluid, you may actually be hearing the cartilage moving. Is the ear red and hot to the touch? He may actually have an infection or ear mites? Or Has he actually been in the Water and your positive? He also may have allergies? Some simple solutions. 1. Take a cotton ball and put some acohol on it and the squeeze it into his ear. Hold him to the side to allow this to run down into his ear canal and rub his ear. You do not need alot! If it is fluid, it will help to evaporate the H2O. Also kill ear mites. 2. If this does not work in about a few hours, then give him a child chewable benidril (my dog loves grape flavor). Check the package and follow the weight dosage. If you do not see an improvement, take him to the vet. It could be serious. Not knowing where you live and if there are other factors regarding what pollens are active, if your dog has been exposed to other animals (rabies), Does he have runny nose, eyes, etc makes it a guess, but this should be a start. Hope this helps.
