What is a home remedy for fleas?

Hi everyone, I have tried Vitamin E oil because thre is a flea in my dog’s ear & I did not have any baby oil or olive oil to drop in it as I had read on several home remedy sites.. I have tried I light mixture of a drop or two of peroxide and water, I have tried wiping it with a cotton ball, exploring with a flashlight and a gentle look with a Q-tip and I have tried a few drops of vinegar & water (that was yesterday). After I put her Frontline on her two days ago, I am POSITIVE a flea went up and crawled in her one ear. (no smell, started 15 mins. after I applied the flea meds to her back nape of the neck) I don’t have a car to just run to the store and buy something so I want to try anything I might have at home before I have to walk several blocks in the rain to buy some mineral oil or eardrops. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULDBE GREATLY APPRECIATED! I love my minature pinscher so much, and she keeps shaking her head and scratching the back of her ear and fake-yawning and I feel so bad for her! It’s gone on 2 days now - I have to solve this TODAY. Thanks for any suggestions!!

The inside of the ear is not a common place to find fleas,if you applied frontline or a similar product you should be of,do not put any foreign substances in the ear.

I agree with woodmereram…if you applied Frontline or one of the other systemic flea remedies, then a flea in the ear is going to die drinking blood…If you can’t see a flea in her ear, then I wouldn’t be so sure that is what the problem is. Fleas have their own “lifestyle”…and living within the ear isn’t a place they prefer congregate.

She may have an ear infection that is totally unrelated to the flea problem…a coincidence…why not take her to the vet and have her ears checked out?

ok, well if you saw a flea on her there are most likely many more on her. They breed like crazy and it will not be long before your whole house is infested if you don’t do something quick. Either buy a flea bath and bathe her with it or take her to your vet and they will give her one. It might not even be fleas if it was in her ears it could be ear mites or even an ear infection. If you don’t know what is bothering the poor dog you need to bring her to the vet.
