When eating eggs in things such as cookie dough or brownie mix is it really as unhealthy as people try to make it out to be?

Its not that its unhealthy, it just increases the risk of salmonella and other bacteria being put into your body from the raw eggs. Thats why your supposed to only eat cooked eggs because the heat from cooking them kills the bacteria.

Darn! I guess I’ll have to stop eating cookie dough…

The mix is always better than the finished product. Sometimes I get carried away and there’s nothing left to bake.. aha

Commercially sold eggs are quality control checked which includes screening for bacterial growth. The eggs themselves will be kept at a temperature which limits the chance for any such bacteria to multiply, storing your eggs in the fridge and using them while relatively fresh will also reduce the risk. The risk of poisoning from home reared chickens or a small scale producer such as a farm store would likely be higher, although still unlikely. Recently a whole shipment of infected eggs was discovered sold in the UK, which came from Germany.

There’s less than a 10th of a percent chance that you’ll get salmonella from eating raw eggs, so you should be good. lol I eat raw eggs all the time, and I havent died yet =] yeah, maybe that’s stupid, but I think my odds are pretty good.
