Why does my dog do this when he goes swimming with us?

When we go swimming and we bring him….i carry him to them water and he sees the water and his paws start moving like he’s already in the water. But he’s not…i’m carrying him. Is he nervous? Excited? BTW he’s a toy poodle that’s why i carry him. He’s not like a lab or great dane er something.

Answer #1

Well I don’t know, is your dog able to swim? If So he’s probably excited to get into the water. If he’s unable to swim, then yes, I’m assuming he’d be nervous and doesn’t want to be near water.

Answer #2

Toy poodles are great swimmers. It comes instinctively. We also have one and he does the same. It’s isn’t any big deal.

Answer #3

Most dogs do this. Its instinctive. We breed pure bred labradors in my family, and if we submerge the puppies legs, they kick. When we take them out of the water, they’re still kicking. They kick until their body realizes its not in the water anymore, which generally happens quickest when they put their feet back on the ground.

Answer #4

Yes, he can swim very good. he’s probably excited like you said.
