when does a female dog first goes into heat
my puppy is 8 weeks old and I’ve only ever had male dogs… when will she first go into heat or bled? when is the bst age to get her spayed?
Dogs can go into heat as early as 4 - 5 months old - spayed over 7 weeks.
A small dog may very well go into heat at 6 or 7 months…(at 4 months, they are teething…not bleeding :)…I make 6 months the cut off time for all my dogs, male and female, to get fixed…That gives them time to get passed most of the teething, and get some good growth in…I think they are easier to train, if they “never know” what they missed.
I keep meaning to tell you, that I had a Westie (we just lost her in Sept to old age)…OMG, she was the cutest, sweetest…biggest personality…she was the boss to my German Shepherd, even tho she weighed 110 pounds less than he…Your pup is a DOLL!

MOST go into heat around 6 months of age, at our hospital we spay and neuter as early as 6 months of age, we have done younger but is a case by case choice for the doctor
