Do scientologists have higher suicide rates?

I know scientologists are against psychiatric medication. So do Scientologists with chronic depression just go unmedicated? Are there increased suicide rates because of this?

Answer #1

The percentage of followers commiting suicide is much higher than that of other religions because scientologists are expected to pay a lot of their money towards the religion, so eventually most of them are left with nothing. Stories of their suicides usually end with the follower dieing, clutching the only money they have left. The religion is very dangerous because most people who speak against it are threatened or even killed. Unfortunately nothing can be done, because America is a free country and we can’t do anything about religions. If you want more information on scientology and its followers, Funmail me.

look it up on google.com and see i don’t think they do since tom cruise is one and he has shown no signs of suicide

Answer #3

I’ve worked with thousands of other Scientologists for the last 30 plus years and I do not know of a single suicide in that entire time. Scientology provides the actual technology to live a much more fulfilling life. When you have the answers to life, why would you want to shorten it?

Answer #4

Statistically, the index of suicide among Scientologists is quite low. Scientologists do not let depression go untreated. They handle it through counseling, through a change of environment, throug becoming more causative and responsible for their relationships, through better nutrition and changes in behavior, and through self-improvement courses. AB-SO-LUTE-LY NOT!!

The key reason is that Scientology cleans up a person’s mental and deeply internal difficulties. Who commits suicide when their life is getting better and happier each day in class?

In 40 years in Scientology, being in and around many different Scientology churches and missionsin five countries, having many Scientologists as friends, family and business associates, and working for and with business owned by Scientologists – I personally DON’T KNOW OF ONE case of suicide by a Scientologist.

I can’t promise it has never happened because, logically, I don’t know all Scientologists who ever were.

But suicide is the last thing anyone would expect from someone who is bettering his/her life daily – AND getting the even deeper satisfaction of helping others better their lives! Is there anything that would make you happier?

If you want a high incidence of suicides, look to psychiatrists’ suicide rates, and to their patients. People who trusted psychiatry to make them well, and then found the pills were useless for them, or made them worse. THEY are the sad and pitiable beings who commit suicide. Check out www.cchr.org
