What is dietary and soluble fibers?

Located under carbohydrates on the nutrition facts.

Answer #1

Dietary fiber is a nutrient, mainly derived from plants that is used in the body to aid in digestion. There are different forms (Soluble and Insoluble) and each one has their own method of absorbing nutrients in the intestines to aid digestion and ease bowel movements.

Soluble fiber is a type that absorbs mainly fatty acids and lipids that the body digests. This type of fiber also has a tendency to absorb very slowly, making you feel fuller longer.

Insoluble fiber is one that absorbs mainly water and larger particles in the body to ease bowels and clean the colon. This one absorbs very quickly and also regulates the body’s pH value.

Both are good, and if you want to lower cholesterol, you should eat soluble fiber as they absorb fatty lipids and acids to ease intestinal digestion and gas. You can find most of these fibers in dark green vegetables, oats, nuts, fruits, flax seeds, and corn.
