How do you deal with someone who's absolutely impossible to deal with?

Long story short, my family is quite dysfunctional. My aunt, who basically dislikes everyone in my family, loves to start trouble in any way possible. Even when we’re not talking to her, she’s off doing something to ensure things are difficult. My uncle, who married her, stands by her and actually does things to just make things worse. I love my uncle and my cousins, but I’m tired of the conflict and trouble and I don’t really want to have to deal with more. How can I deal with them, though, or work on things when they’re absolutely impossible to get through to? I don’t know how to make them back off or stop. I’m lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer #1

dude just ignore them. if they are as impossible as you make them out to be, then its not worth ur time. unless this directly affects your life, then dont get involved.

Answer #2

I’ve tried to ignore them, but it is directly effecting me and they’re not stopping.

Answer #3

Tell me how it affects you. Do you live with them? Do they fight directly in front of you?

Answer #4

Wow i’d have thought you were somehow related to me if you hadn’t said your aunt was married. I have the same exact sort of aunt but no one would ever marry her ha. Honestly I know you’ve tried but ignoring it is all you can do. If she really is like my aunt talking to her about it will just fuel her.

Answer #5

Yeah I’m going to have to wonder how someone starts trouble while you’re ignoring them.

Answer #6

Oh and I think we all have an aunt like this. My mother finally told her off after 25 years of being bullied. Now she doesnt talk to us. Which is just fine with me.

Answer #7

They’ll still start drama even if your not speaking to them but at least you’ll not hear about it as much.

Answer #8

Well yeah. But I dont have to hear about it. And honestly it doesnt usually get to me. She doesnt mess with me because she knows better, but it annoys the crap out of me when someone wont sit down because her purse is on the seat and they’re too scared to move it (no she wasnt saving a seat, she just inspires that much fear).

Answer #9

i think we all really have one…i did 2…she ruined my life & because of her i completely disowned all my cousins aunts/uncles galore… funny how one damn woman can make an entire family not be on speaking terms…shame on her…i guess she got what she deserves for being a mean evil woman!

Answer #10

Well, for one, she’s been spreading negative rumours about me (and my family) both online and in person. The people who I work for (I watch their children weekly) caught some of the things she said and weren’t very happy. It almost cost me my job. In addition to this, she’s been calling multiple places trying to prevent my other uncle from getting home care and other services he needs from nurses (he has MS, and he pretty much NEEDS them for exercises and whatnot). Since things went sour there, my family and I have been needing to deal with everything that goes on there because my uncle can’t do it himself. So we’re right in the middle, and no matter how much we try to ignore, they still start trouble. It’s just very stressful.

Answer #11

Wow. OK, that is aggravating. I wonder if you could actually call it in as a form of harassment? Maybe just threaten her that you will call the cops unless she stops harassing your family.
