How to deal with my 14 year old sister...

Well I know shes at that age where shes going thru a lot mentally and changing…but d a m and shes making my family miserable! treating my parents like crap, she is stealing my ciggarettes, what!!!shes only 14! I’ve tried hiding stuff in numerous places, she finds it if im not home. shes heading down the wrong path already, and id like to stop her before she screws up all the time like I did at that age. will ANYTHING work or is it impossible does her stage need to just run its course..?

Answer #1

Stick to her like glue and keep her on the straight and narrow - you’ll both be glad you did !

Answer #2

When I was thirteen I was doing the same just about the same things, only I never smoked tobacco but other things, and now I am an Honors student with a 3.7 GPA. It was just a stage for me I was making everybody in my family hate me and such. I’ve really straightened out. If she is smart about things she can still keep her friends and not go down the wrong path. I have all my same friends and they like me just the same. Maybe hers can be like that too. Talk with her, but don’t push her, it will only make things worse. Just give her advice without her knowing that is what you are doing, and set a good example for her. Eventually she should see that she shouldn’t act like that. Hopefully she will stop acting foolish and get her head straight.

Answer #3

eh, its hard to tell. actions speek louder than words. my older brother has always tried to keep me in line, but I found a lot of his advice hypocritical, thusly stoped listening to him for the most part.

she probably has more pressuring influences than you provide, so if you cant solve the problem, dont take it personally, she probably just was convinced by someone she felt understands her better.

try not to be too condesending. if she is trying to act adult like, than she probably wants to be treated as such in a conversation… whether she deserves it or not.

oh, and insult her breath or something for the cigs. she’s fourteen. hit her where it hurts.
