Budgie is too shy.

I have a baby budgie I bought it about 3 weeks ago and it is still very shy. It lets me pat it inside the cage and sometimes goes on my finger, but it won’t let me take it outside the cage. When should it let me take it out of it’s cage and what are some tricks to make it trust me more? It does not accept treats from my hand.

Spend plenty of time with it, 5 or 10 minutes every now and then but then give it plenty of breaks and quiet time. I sing to my budgies and they sing along with me they seem to like Chris brown - forever the best :P Also whistle, they see it as a way of comunicating and should help build up the relationship.

Its a good idea with the food but my budgies are only 9 weeks and I’ve only had them a day and a half now so there still getting use to there new environment, and still only little babies in my eyes :) But I’ve managed to stroke, and get them to go onto my finger in one day so its promising that they are going to tame and be handled rather easily.

Plenty of attention and bonding is the key, and maybe if nothing helps it could be that its lonely or bored - is there room for a friend if its not taking to you ?

Good luck ! :)

This is what I will do… I would play with it every single minute of each day, sometimes try taking it out of its cage even if it doesn’t want to, pet it, give it kisses… j/k!… well it’s your choice! ummm, & I would also try giving it it’s favorite foods that’ll build up bonding! If that doesn’t work ask a pro. BUDGIE breeder! HEY! BTW, can you try helping me with my DONALD DUCK question? XOXOXO
