Blonde dye job gone WRONG!!!

I have dark blonde hair naturally and highlight it light blonde. Didn’t have the money for a touch up job so used a Loreal blonde all over home kit. Now the inch and a half of roots is strawberry blonde!!! How do I get the orangey color out of my roots? Please help!!!

Re the last post - scrubbing your hair won’t remove a permanent colour. It has already been sealed into the hair shaft. I have dyed my hair so many times, I’ve gone from black to brown to blonde to red then back again. If she dyes all her hair dark she risk ruining more than just the re-growth. But I do agree with making sure you leave the colour on long enough. People often get scared and wash it off too quickly. Using a dye you have purchased from the shop is never as strong as what they use in a salon, as they can control how weak or strong it is when they mix it. Store bought dyes are fairly safe in that you can leave it on for a while and nothing bad will happen - they don’t want people complaining that their hair fell out. I’d suggest try it again yourself first - try putting highlights in where the regrowth is and also a few through the rest of your hair to try and blend it in. Don’t go overboard and do heaps, just try a few and see how they look. You can buy packs of dye that are designed to do highlights yourself - they come with special tools to do so and arent expensive. I don’t use expensive dye on my hair and it looks fine, however I am brunette now. If it really doesnt work you may need help. Not because you need expensive salan dyes but you need someone else to apply the highlights because it can be tricky.

Baaad idea! Highlights are nothing like regular hair dye. I would suggest you go to a professional and have them fix it. The only other option, while not a good one, is to go buy a home highlighting kit and see if that works.

You didnt leave the dye on for long enough to take enough colour out. You can try it again but leave it on for a shorter amount of time, but you risk having it still turn out different to the rest of your hair. You can put toner on the roots to try and take out some of the redness but it wont be very effective. Or you can wait til you have enough money and go to the professionals. Perhaps wear a hat or headband in the meantime.
