How do you know if a Betta fish is dead?

Please only Past Betta owners - professionals on fish

Answer #1

Shake the bowl he’s in just a little bit, if he doesnt move shake it a little harder. If he still doesnt move he’s probably dead.

Answer #2

yeah - but isn’t he only dead if he is floating at the top while on his side?

Answer #3

uhm well put a long pencil or fish net in the bowl and lightly touch him. if he doesnt move i’d say hes a goner. not all fish will float when they die, they generally do that if they have been dead for 3 or four hours. A lot of fish will die at the bottom of the tank. (I have lots and lots of aquarium fish) when one passes away of old age or illness that will happen and my betta, well hes alive but sometimes he looks dead and i just have to startle him to get him moving again…

Answer #4

yeah - just checked he’s not dead! :) yay! He was being lazy… I had a Betta 8 years ago - forgot everything about them. lol

Answer #5

glad to hear that he’s okay, i would be heartbroken if my little Jazz was gone.

Answer #6

look at the eyes, if they are foggy and he isnt moving…then…im sorry
