Why can't I extend my leg better in ballet?

I am a dancer and my extention is not so fab. Im pretty flexibile and I have a lot of muscle. why cant I keep my leg up there?!!?

maybe you need to practice doing the splits on the floor and then practice doing th splits stod up hope this helps x
