What should I say my availability is and the number of hours I wish to work a week?

I am getting hired for a part-time job. I don’t want to work too manu hours, in fact the less the better, I simply wish to earn a little money to put away. I was going to say I could work mondays tuesdays, fridays and sundays, would saying no more than 20hours a week be too little? Would it demean my chances of getting hiredor rather their impression of me since they are going to offer me a job? Is it too little a week for a part-time job?

For a part time job, no. 20 hours a week isn’t too little. I do think you should be careful with wording if you’re asked about it, though. In most cases employers tend to like it when people are open to working crazy hours. While you are open to 20 hours and would be happy with less, telling an employer that may make you seem like you wouldn’t be the best person to hire for the job. Saying that you’d prefer a low level of hours may make it seem like you don’t actually want the job, which possibly would make you look bad to the employer.

Thank yoy! That second part is exactly what I was worried and wondering about. :)

Answer #3

If you’re applying for a part-time job, then it will automatically limit the number of hours you can work in a week. If you make yourself available for every day of the week, it doesn’t mean you’ll be scheduled for every day of the week, but it opens up you availability so that your employer can stick you in where he needs you.

I would put a spread of time, so when they ask how many hours, you can say 10-20. That way if they want to have you for less, they can.
