What do I do if my availability hours are being ignored at work [please read description]?

I put specifically on my availability that I’m off Wednesdays and Thursdays. Ive been continuously put on Thursdays and now this week, Wednesday. I know I should speak to the manager, but it’s a bit more complex than that. My boyfriend’s mother happens to make the schedules and is one of the manager. I feel kind of weird, since I made my availability around my boyfriend’s schedule so I could see him Wednesdays and Thursdays, so I don’t think she’d think too kindly of me if she saw me over at her house claiming to be unavailable for those days.

Maybe you could just speak to her and…. tell her the truth? I mean private life and a harmonic relationship are a good and valid reason why someone will not want to work at a specific day.

Maybe she just did not read your schedule. Or maybe there are other people working there who also want Thursday and Wednesday off and who have complained to her for putting them on on those days. Maybe they have the same reasons that you have, but they speak up while you take it?

Just give it a try. Be nice. Don’t get angry. just ask for whether you can have those days off as you put them on your availability, as you’d like to spend more time with your boyfriend. If I’m right and other folks also want these days off, maybe you could ask for a compromise. Like “…how about I get them off every second week? Do you think that would be acceptable for everyone?”
