My little cousin who is almost three year’s old is some what autistic and all she does is scream…is that normal?

Children diagnosed on the autistic spectrum are not all the same- some are not vocal at all, some are very vocal. It’s not really a matter of categorising behaviours as ‘normal’ or not, it’s recognising the behaviours specific to the child in question, the stimuli which cause certain reactions etc.

A child that I care for often uses screeching and other loud vocal noises as opposed to words, because (as he is now able to tell us) he doesn’t like words. We encourage him to use words, and praise him when he does use them- simple words like ‘yes’ and ‘no’, once learned, can make an incredible difference.
