Diagnosed with pre diabetes, how do I know what type it is?

I was diagnosed with pre diabetes and the doctor said that the insulin in my body would not absorb so this leads to my question do I fall under which category type 1 or type2

Answer #1

pre-diabetes can only be diagnosed by your doctor, and they should tell you. normally, it’s type II, which means you will normally go onto diet control, then tablet then insulin…

type one, is very much life style contributed (yes I know it’s can be genetic) but being genetic only pre-disposes you to a problem - it doesn’t mean you WILL get it!) and that is often detected when a person is more lathargic than useual, has started to gain weight, progressivly urinates more during the night, and drinks more…many signs, the only way to check is a blood test. once that is done, you will be placed under a diabetic nurse who will guide you thorugh the early stages..

type I is mor sever, comes on rapidly, symptoms include; urination (20+++ a day) excessive unquenchable thirst, rapid weight loss, thrush oral and genital, lathargic and more. the pancreas completely secreting insulin, which is what converts glucose into glycogon, which is what can enter the cells. its very rare to develop in those over 25 years old, although not unheard of. a person who was diet, tablet and is then insulin controlled IN NOT a type I, being insulin dependent does not therefore mean you are now a type I, you are just a insulin dependent type II

my husband is type I, and my 4 year old has irregular sugar levels and I have to keep an eye on his (ever tried taking blood from a 4 year old! not recomended!)

if you are borderline, your doctor will advise you to speak to a diabetic spealist and go from there…you will need regular sgar testing to montor how your diet regulation of glucose intake is going…

Answer #2

Sorry to hear about your problem…you can do somethings…watch what you eat…exercise…will help a lot…I am not sure which one 1 or 2 …doctor should have told you…besides…your pre diabetes…it doesn’t mean you have it yet…so take advice…eat better…fruit veggies…complex carbs..oatmeal…stay away from fast food…!! too many sugary things…donuts…I know it’s difficult but you can do it…once you get a “feel” for eating better…you won’t want to eat poorly…doesn’t taste good… good luck…
