An amino acid is a carbon compound joined by peptide bonds, they are the building blocks of proteins. They are usually made up of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and sometimes sulfur. There are 20 different amino acids that can code for a protein. They are made when DNA is being translated, each 3 nucleotides is an amino acid, and when several amino acids join together, they form the actual protein.
