What do you think about allowing young kids to play with toy guns, toy knifes, etc…?

Answer #1

in my work if the child uses a plastic tool as a weapon we immediately take it away and explain why its not good. I believe its a horrible thing to introduce to children. they are a child they do not need to know about pain and guns and war. there are plenty of other activities that the child can do that can actualy help him/her develp rather than play with a toy weapon. nonsense i say.

Answer #2

I think that even though they are children and the items aren’t real. they should never be introduced to the kids at such a young age. Or else these weapons could become “Normal” things.

Answer #3

Well…. when I was little I played with this kinda thing all the time… but now, thinking about it, when I have kids, i don’t really want them to play with them.. War isn’t a game.. its deadly.

Answer #4

They are TOYS. I see nothing wrong with it. Me, my brother, and our cousins and friends were always allowed to play with them. We turned out pretty damn awesome<3

Answer #5

When I was little the funnest thing I could do when ever I want was go black Nerf guns and go play with my cap guns. I hate it when people think its bad when at that age all it is simple innocent fun.

Answer #6

Several generations of kids have plays with those toys, and they have been just fine…

Answer #7

Play not black lol

Answer #8

There are sooo many more things that they could be playing with….

Answer #9

I’m kind of mixed about it. I feel like it has to influence young kids in some way…they’re so young and impressionable, the fact that they’re constantly exposed to violence and weapons (even if they are just dart guns) has got to have SOME effect, But then I look at myself…I played with Nerf guns and all that jazz, and I still don’t like violence and would never even consider hurting someone. So maybe it’s more about personality than the actual toy itself.

Answer #10

If you explain things to your kids and raise them well, letting them play with toy guns and such should not be a problem. My parents taught us well growing up and we pretty much always had those kinds of toys. It never harmed either of us, nor has having the toys brought bad teachings in. So.. I’m all for letting kids play with them.

Answer #11

Then again, are we fine?

Answer #12

I had a toy gun as a kid. Looked just like smaller version of my dad’s rife :D. Also had several toy cap gun pistols. But from a young age I remember on several occasions I was told NEVER to point it at a person or animal. You only point gun at something you intended to kill. Even though it was a toy and could never hurt anyone. Now that I think back on it my parents and grandparents where already teaching me about firearm safety.

Answer #13

I dont think they should have them because it could possibly teach them bad things, and they might resort to what they grew up doing but getting real ones and possibly harming someone.
