Is it bad that I don't agree with the bible even though I'm Christian?

Answer #1

It’s contradictory, but being a Christian means you do believe in Christ. None of us are able to follow everything the Bible says at all times, but we are forgiven. What are you struggling with?

Answer #2

You’re entitled to your own opinion.

Answer #3

Completely normal. If I was a Christian, I’d disagree with a lot and have a lot of questions too.

Answer #4

It isn’t “bad.” As long as you feel you are doing everything in your power to be the best person you can & follow Christ.. then you’re doing great! In my opinion.

Answer #5

Christians (both left and right wing), on the whole, tend to “pick and choose” what parts of the bible they quote or believe in. (Hence, you get examples like so many self-proclaimed Christian conservative politicians who act very “Un-Christian” and do things that are the opposite of what Christ allegedly stood for, etc.) So I don’t see it as a big deal.

It’s all a matter of your own personal ideas and preferences. I’m agnostic/atheist (In that I don’t believe in any organized religion or specific gods, but I do believe in higher powers and energies), so I may not be the best to give an opinion.

But don’t beat yourself up for not agreeing with the bible even though you identify yourself as Christian.

Answer #6

Every true Christian I know accepts by faith that the Bible is Gods Word, infallible, and written under the devine/supernatural will of God, directing those who wrote it down..true from cover to cover…For me, if one doesn’t believe this truth, they have one foot in the world, one foot out….cannot serve two masters…will hate the one as His Word says….my belief to which I am entitled, comforted by His Promises……

Answer #7

She is right fluffy

Answer #8

i dont know if its right but i dont believe in everything in the bible. its also how you interpret it.

Answer #9

Thank you best answer ive seen

Answer #10

I dont agree with there beliefs in ab*rtion and gay rights

Answer #11

A Christian cannot ‘pick an choose’, either they accept the Bible as the true infallable/no mistakes/true cover 2 cover Word of God or not….you can’t be a ‘little bit’ Pregnant or Christian….believeing a ‘little bit’ is calling God a liar, eg ‘I am man and I know better than you God..you DO make mistakes….

Answer #12

The great thing, Judgement Day we can ask Him ourself…Is your Word toally true ?

Answer #13

Being Buddhist, it’s probably not really my right to say anything, but I’m just tossing my opinion out there (take it or leave it) - If the bible is meant to be the “Word of God”, then isn’t it be meant to be followed to the letter?

If it wasn’t meant to be followed, then what was the point in writing it? God may as well have had a group of people write up a chart of general ideas so people can come up with their own conclusions.

Answer #14

The bible doesn’t agree to itself in some parts. In the first testament, it says “An eye for an eye” in the second testament, Jesus disagreea and says “if they beat you on one cheek, offer the other cheek”. So what are you gonna do? You can’t follow both.

Answer #15

That’s something you have to deal with within yourself, but I’d say don’t let anything stop you from being a believer.

Answer #16

That’s true. If u say u love God, ur supposed to believe what He says in the Bible either wise even if some is hard to do. ask God for strength to do His will. If u say u know more than God, ur just religious and not Christian.

Answer #17

but the bible can be interpreted differently. like Christians are supose to think gays are wrongs because the bible says somewhere your supose to mate and have kids and since thats not possible with gay people then it is wrong. i think.so yea

Answer #18

Christians approach the Bible in different ways. Some look at the whole work as the perfect divine world of God with the only contradictions being our own lack of understanding or the inscrutability of God. Others look at the Bible as the spiritual journey of important early believers with valuable insights and information but still written by man with our own biases and shortcomings. Not everyone even agrees on the same Bible. The Catholic Old Testament has 7 books that are not in Protestant Old Testaments. Then there are translations; it is difficult to translate a work to another language without loosing nuances or adding unintended connotations. Scholarly analysis of the Bible often combines scripture with knowledge of the history and customs of the period; these sometimes vary greatly with common interpretations. Many religions add their own bits to the Bible. The Catholic church sees itself as the church started by Jesus himself (… upon this rock I build my church Simon Peter …) and a source of divine authority in addition to Scriptures. The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) believe that each person can experience God without going through clergy and be guided by it. Contrast this with the view that Scripture is the only source of divine knowledge. So in short, you don’t have to accept the entire lock stock and barrel in order to consider yourself a Christian.

Answer #19

The Bible doesn’t directly address ending pregnancies. Believers have made arguments based on selected passages in the Bible but it isn’t hard to make a pro-choice argument based on selected passages in the Bible. There is surprisingly little about homosexuality in the Bible and as far as I know all of it is in the Old Testament. Jesus never even mentions homosexuality. You’d think that if homosexuality was such a bad thing for Christians he’d at least mention it in one of his sermons in the Bible. Christian opposition to family planning and homosexuality come down to sex. They don’t approve of pre- or extra-marital sex or homosexuality so they are against anything that helps fornicators avoid the consequences of their behavior. They want to force their Victorian era sexual mores on everyone else.

Answer #20

Well yea but from what jive heard news media friends family has basicly come down too the church saying homosexuals are a abomination to god

Answer #21

Exactly, the church says homosexuality is bad. In the OT Leviticus says homosexuality is an abomination but it also says not to eat seafood without scales or fins, not to wear clothes made from two different kinds of cloth, plant fields with two different kinds of seeds, not to have sex with your wife when she is on her period or a month or two after childbirth (1 month after a boy, 2 months after a girl; having a girl leaves mom “unclean” twice as long) etc. Christians ignore the rest of the Leviticus but they focus like a laser on the one passage that reinforces their own prejudice. What you are having a problem with isn’t the Bible but what various churches “read into” the Bible.

Answer #22

Answer #27

so im having a problem with the church :P

Answer #28

You are comparing the old and new covenant. Jesus basically changed the rules.

Answer #29

I didn’t know it was up to you.

Answer #30

Niky, I’m sorry, but it’s true, on the whole, many Christians do pick and choose what they believe in from the bible. (Mainly because so much of it is full of antiquated ideas, and there are a lot of internal inconcistancies and errors in it.) It isn’t a perfect book, it was written by man through their interpretation of events (alleged events, at least), and man is fallible. There’s no way, no how the entire thing is correct. I have doubts any of it is correct, as an agnostic. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some good ideas, though.

Answer #31

we all sin. whether its being gay…being lazy…being mean. It is not natural to be gay…not the way things were intended. We weren’t intended to be a lot of things but we are…and its not right for anyone to judge. U wont go to hell cuz u commit sins. We al do. Not one is bigger than the other. U should use the Bible as ur guide..and try with all ur mite..nd love God nd Jesus with everything u have. U will be forgiven. U will be accepted. The Bible is the word of God. Something’s we don’t like. Ex being gay a sin. But so is lusting over woman nd men something we all do. and have doneand will do again…we can’t help it. He knows that. So what do we do? We love Him nd try our best. Build a relationship wit Him…that’s what matters

Answer #32

I dont agree with alot of stuff in the bible, because Some of the stuff just seems so heart, but I know my duty as a christian is to align my will with God’s will. Analyse the Lord’s Prayer. No, its not so bad that you disagree, but you must remember to live by it anyway, and pray that you will have a change in heart. And also, we live by the new testament, so alot of stuff in the old testament is invalid. If thats something your struggling with.

Answer #33

FOrgive me. seems to harsh*

Answer #34

FOrgive me. seems to harsh*

Answer #35

FOrgive me. seems to harsh*

Answer #36

Yeah, I think it’s bad, because then you are not a real Christian but a cafeteria Christian, picking and choosing what you like and don’t like. A lot of people do exactly that. They are called liberal Christians. They have an excuse and rationalization for every bad passage in the Bible. The correct choice, I think, is to reject Christianity as a valid belief system, because there IS so much bad stuff in the Bible. I’ve spend a lifetime studying the Bible and debating knowledgeable Christians, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Bible is a horrible book. I could say tons more, but one thing I know is that you are bothered by certain passages not because of any failing on your part, but because of your inherent sense of decency, morality, and common sense in recognizing that there is something seriously wrong about many, many passages. Like Deut 13:6-9. Any religion that would advise such a thing at any time, in any context, is abhorrent.
