Why do some Christians make us look bad?

Why do some Christians make us look bad? Why do they rant and rave about the Savior while living consistently sinful lives? Why dont we as a people band together and show Christ love through our actions rather our words???!!!

Answer #1

A lot of people call themselves Christians just because they think it’s true. They were raised and brainwashed with it, they like the religion but don’t give it much thought or correlate it with the aspects of life. I think many Christians are generally unthought in the areas relevant.

conversely, a lot of atheist call themselves so because they think it is true. THEY were raised and brainwashed with it. Refer to my question Atheist and children. It is a parents job to raise their children to the best of their ability and to instill whatever values in them that they deem appropriate. Its called parenting. You cant leave an impressionable child to raise themselves and figure out whats right and wrong in the world.

Besides Christians say you can be a serial murderer, repent, and go to Heaven. In that sense it seems pretty pointless.

God is not a drunk girl at the frat party who you butter up to for 5 mins so you can get the prize. Christianity is more like a decision you make when you are ready to do right in the eyes of the Lord. The way is see it is that the walk of the Lord is like walking on a tight rope. Yes you have the net underneath you in case you fall but you are still suppose to try not to.

There’s also the creationists Christians. Particularly those who try to “debate” the issue. inventing w/e anti-science that supports the Bible, using crap from creationists sources and seemingly pure ignorance. I’ve seen a few creationists claim something like scientists don’t admit that evolution is wrong because they don’t want to repent to god.

There are those like me who believe that God created man. I dont believe in evolution in the sense that we were all monkeys (evolution) I believe that we may look different then we did billions of years ago. I also dont believe we were once particles that decided to blow up and make the earth (big bang) but I accept it as the doctrine of todays society. There is no way for sure anyone can know exactly how we as a species came about. We can come to conclusions based on how scientific evidence is interpreted but thats all unless we find a multi-billion year old man or woman who can give us an eye witness account.

Some Christians force their views on people, claim their religion is right, everyone else is wrong or under Satan and going to Hell. a lot of Christians think they’ve got a handle on the truth, when it’s something that is believed. I guess admitting that is making room for them to be wrong.

There are also those who swear God is imaginary and that we are all saps, dopes and suckers. In America we are granted freedom of speech which is great we are allowed to say anything we want. We also have to tollerate others ideas and if they scream it to the top of their lungs we can either listen or walk away. Yes, their are people, all types of people, who push their ideas on others and try to share the good news of their profound choices and beliefs whether they be talking about their favorite football team, softdrink or favorite candidate for an upcoming election. It just happens to be that in matters concerning the fate of one’s soul and the reality of one’s God people tend to get passionate and sometimes overly-vocal.

Politically, the “Religious right” and the many Christians who affiliate themselves with it, don’t make Christinas look like too good of people also. Generally they are judgmental, they want to convert everyone to Christianity, and basically base policies on Biblical scripture

Everyone has an opinion. In America’s democratic government we have to choose a representitive that represents our ideas and what we feel is in our country’s best interest. It wouldnt be fair to make millions of Americans choose between different degrees of liberal hippie ideals and policies. In a religion that is centered on faith in God and his son it is almost impossible to back it up with scientific evidence. (especially when science is convinced that we all came from apes and dust bunnies) If biblical scriptures seem frivolous and insignificant remember that the absense of evidence is not the evidence of absence. :)

Answer #4

Answer #5

Answer #6

sorry, can you say that again, so that even simple people (such as myself) can understand?

Answer #7

It all boils down to this: I am a Christian woman. Being a Christian woman I believe that lying, stealing, murder etc. are all sins. I refrain from lying stealing murder etc. I do not participate in rallies against any of the people that participate in the said sins and tell them that God is going to send them to hell. Nor do I indulge in enabling and praising the proverbial offenders for proudly commiting the afore mentioned wrongs. I tell those who CHOOSE to listen what the bible says. Period. Also, Funadvice.com is a site to get answers to questions that plauge you I ask questions that plauge me. You may or may not choose to respond. I believe that it is immature and ridiculous that we have to engage in this 4 page degenerative debate about whether I am judgemental. Do you not have better things to do? Frankly I am tired of defending my nuetrality. Yes I am a Christian but I am also a Christian PERSON and I dont care whether someone who constantly doubts and criticizes God perishes in hell or not. But I am only a young Christian and maybe this concern with all mankind with come with spiritual maturity. Until then you can be sure that I am not judging you or any other nonbeliever because at the end the day everyone is responsible for their own fate. And while I am vaguely troubled by the fact that some are adamant in disproving God and everything He has said I am more worried about those who are ignorant to God’s words or God all together and that is who I am trying to educate. You obviously know enough about God to make your choice to have faith in him or not. Changing made up minds is not my goal Mr. Assassin. Filling other’s with the good works of the Lord is.

Sex before marriage is a supposed “sin”.. Yet god knows, everyone is having it. Married or not.

Actually its not… someone simply added ‘premarital sex’ to the English definition of ‘fornication’ …to make people THINK its a sin…

I don’t think that is as pathetic as the stuck-up Christians, or the rude and judgmental, or those who claim anyone outside the religion is just escaping responsibility to do w/e they want. Like the Christians who ask nonreligious people why they don’t go around lying, stealing, and murdering. So I guess they are saying the only reason they don’t is because they are Christians? Oh come on, they can’t be that pathetic.

Besides Christians say you can be a serial murderer, repent, and go to Heaven. In that sense it seems pretty pointless. Psychopaths/sociopaths don’t feel remorse, so what does god do with some of the people who were born with and/or developed these disorders? He sends them to Hell for a condition he allowed?

There’s also the creationists Christians. Particularly those who try to “debate” the issue. inventing w/e anti-science that supports the Bible, using crap from creationists sources and seemingly pure ignorance. Answer #19

Ok.. I’ve pretty much read everything in this entire forum.. And to be quite honest.. Some of you have points, and some of you dont. When asking about God.. Don’t quote the bible.. It’s like asking for the definition of a word.. and using the word in the definition. And technically “Relaying Information” Is pretty much the same as pushing your beliefs on others.. What seems like information to you, may not be for others. I myself as a hypocritical Agnostic.. am dating a full blown right out there christian.. The whole Deacon, choir leader.. the whole nine. And now they’re telling us, that even though we’re in love, we cant move in together. In my eyes, that is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. How are you possibly supposed to be aware of your surroundings, when they constantly consist of other family members? Not to mention he’ll lose every status he’s ever built up in his church. So this leaves us where? Sex before marriage is a supposed “sin”.. Yet god knows, everyone is having it. Married or not. And now they’re putting down laws, that are pretty much stating “ If you’re happy, and want a future.. Oh welll.” You aren’t going to know if you’re compatible if you dont try.. no? I go to his church like a good little girlfriend, every Sunday and Wednesday.. And all I hear is to be “christ like” Yet no one looks at themselves.. There has been nothing but bitter comments about our relationship throughout the congregations.. But yet.. They still preach about how you should always be accepting, because its.. once again “christ like” I’m sorry, but the nasty looks I get from half of these people.. is not very christ like in my books ..

Answer #20

is thread is getting a bit crazy… but to answer your question: I think that you will find people like that everywhere. You will find fanatics everywhere. and you will also find those who believe that they are trying really hard to live a righteous life as best they can, but need help with riding themselves of sinning. Although the last one may be just an illusion or genuine, our Christian people that fall in this “make us look bad” know how to do it loud and often. naturally any media and anti-Christian median is going to expose that as well, never mind what we experience in our day to day lives

Answer #21

Keep lying to every1 else

Poor retort… to lie to yourself… IS to lie to everyone else…

Being a Christian woman I believe that lying, stealing, murder etc. are all sins. I refrain from lying stealing murder etc.

Then being a Christian woman, you should be SILENT in church, along with other ‘male-dominant’ things as well. For the bible says to do so… do you refrain from THAT?

I believe that it is immature and ridiculous that we have to engage in this 4 page degenerative debate about whether I am judgemental.

Yet… here you are… doing it…

Answer #22

I dont claim to be perfect and I do not know why you continue to repeat the same thing.

Because you aren’t listening…

Im NOT judging others.

Yes… you ARE.

He does not say dont tell someone something is wrong because he says testify… That is the whole point.

Jesus was testifying that the world was evil [John 7:7] because (according to the Bible) he lived a SINLESS life… so HE can do it.

When I say something is wrong im not speaking to an individual I am testifying about God’s word.

You’re in no position to tell others what to do, when you are JUST as sinful. THAT is the point.

Answer #23

Im not telling people what to do. I am saying what God says. Relaying information is not judging dude. Sorry.

Answer #24

Also, this question is being answered by people of all religions - you cant just single a religion out that you want to answer, your going to hear from all different sides.

Answer #28

Honestly, we do not need a whole post that is full of nothing but bible quotes. Try and leave this as a discussion and not a bible lesson.

Answer #29

Hi! We are all sinners and will be till kingdom come. But, christians need to and should live “in the spirit” and so not be displaying a lot of intentional sinning.

If you want to be forgiven of your sins and assure that you’re going to heaven( a good place not seperate from God who loves you and wants you to be happy and a better person). You’ll have to say a simple prayer: Dear father, I know I am a sinner, I fall short of who you are. I know that your son Jesus died on the cross so that I could be forgiven and healed of my sicknesses(the healing requires faith on my part). I know now I am a christian (now I am born of the spirit and able to have a relationship with you. Come in to my life and help me. Thank you.

The Bible says He loved us first, now I can love Him.
