Why are there no aethiests on a sinking ship or a hijacked plane ?

Answer #1

…What?

Answer #2

This makes no sense and is horribly written.

Answer #3

I think I get it….when someone is about to die, they often pray or ask God to save them..the problem is, the question is flawed. For someone who obviously has not been on every sinking ship or hijacked plane since the beginning of time, he can’t prove that every person about to die is looking to God for help.

Answer #4

there are, not everyone begs to a god to save them. most athiests would probably call up or talk to their loved ones next to them, telling them how much they meant to them, instead of begging to a “god” that cant stop the inevitable

Answer #5

The way I heard it is “there are no atheists in foxholes.”

This is the idea that when forced to face their own mortality atheists seek the help of a higher power.

Many believers think that it is only the strength of God that carries them through difficult situations. Their religion teaches them that mankind is corrupt and weak and that only through God can they be whole. My 5th grade science teacher even told us that atheists always accept God on their deathbed. While I don’t doubt that some people when facing a grim reality prefer a comforting fantasy I also know that atheists usually are at peace with with their ultimate fate and do not make a last minute play to get right with God.
