What medication, food, or exercise should I use to help my back aches?

Answer #1

Stretching really helps me. Sometimes on days where I work a lot (I work in a busy dining room that gets CRAZY busy during the summer when everyone comes to Newport as Tourists.) Just sit with your legs apart and place your hands in the middle of the triangle. Then sit up and twist your back, back and forth. Taking a bath helps me too. Not a shower, but a bath. Take some Advil. I wouldn’t say more than 200 mg - 500 if it’s really bad.

Answer #4

Backaches can be caused by a number of things. They can be from strained muscles, inflammation, pinched nerves, arthritis, cancer or physical deformities. Lower back pain can even be caused by a kidney infection. For occasional minor backaches I’ve had good luck with over the counter ibuprofen or naproxen. If your backaches are severe, don’t get better in a few days or are recurring you should go to your doctor to determine the cause and best treatment.

Answer #5

Oxycodone is extremely addictive and not generally recommended for back pain. Anti-inflammatory medications such as robaxin can be used if the pain is caused by muscle spasms, but as fos pointed out, you have to get to the source of your back pain before you can possibly decide on a course of treatment.

Answer #6

Don’t take any medicine at your own. Consult a doctor. There are many other treatments for back ache besides medicine.

Answer #7

You should really talk to a doctor first, bad backs are tricky and if you pick the wrong ‘treatment’ for your type of back pain then it can worsen it. For example, if you have a pinched nerve, exercise can pinch it more and even cause permanent damage or if you have degenerative disks then stretching could throw out your back. So, find out the problem before you look for a solution. Having weaker stomach muscles can put a lot of strain on your middle/lower back, so try working those if you get the okay to do those kinds of exercises. As for soothing the pain, heat is the only thing that works for me. Good luck!
