Cold or Flu! I could really use your help!

Ok im sick and I know your most likely not a doctor, but I feel sick and I can’t tell if its a cold!

•fever •torso hot, ands and feet cold •slight head ache •soar throat •runny and stuff nose •body aches •want to sleep but can’t because of pain

I have been taking tylenol(spelling) and halls cough drops

Do you think it is flu or a cold? Will I be better by tomoro?(I know you can’t be 100% sure but it would comfort me) What should I take medication wise and food/drink/bedrest wise.

Thanks so much!

it sounds to me like the COLD virus that is hanging here in wisconsin- most of my friends have the sore throat and coughing, I have it to a lesser degree, my throat was sore last night.

one of my friends says it is the worst cold she has ever had- and it sticks with you- she has had it for a few weeks now. I ahve been taking excedrin back and body- and I feel prety good.

Did you start with symptoms over a day or 2 or did you feel fine one minute and the next BAM!!! How high is your fever, over 102? If these symptoms came out of the blue and fever is high, then more than likely it is the flu. As for being better tomorrow? Doubt it. You can eat pretty much whatever you r comfortable with-ice cream, ice chips, popsicles help with the sore throat. Although, if you have a lot of mucus then you want to skip over the dairy, which makes it thicker and feel worse. Lots of liquids, OJ has lots of Vit C but can be hard on a sore throat. Even just ice water is fine, keeps the mucus thinned out and from settling in your lungs. Vicks vapor rub under the nose helps with a stuffy nose while trying to sleep. Motrin (ibuprofen) will probably help with the body aches better than Tylenol–BUT, if you r under the age of 16 DO NOT use Motrin, use Tylenol. Studies show aspirin use with flu like symptoms in those under 16 can lead to Reyes Syndrome. The Halls cough drops can help some with stuffy nose as well If your nose runs more than it is stuffy then use something containing pseusoephedrine which will help dry you up. Even more important to increase your fluids because you can actually become dehydrated. Your parents will have to by the meds with pseudoephedrine if you r under 18 and it is usually behind the counter. It is a major ingredient used in making crack cocaine and is being highly regulated now. If you take meds for ADD/ADHD (Ritalin,Concerta, etc ) then consult a physician before taking meds containing pseudoephedrine or if you have a heart disorder. The meds for ADD and pseudoeph both increase your heartrate. Try saline nasal sprays too (Ocean, store brand equivalent, etc). Look at all your medications and make sure that everything you may be taking do not contain the same meds. (I.e.- Tylenol or Motrin isn’t in 2 or 3 things, pseudoeph particularly ONLY in 1 med. —watch nasal sprays and make sure they say saline–Afrin is a nasal spray and contains pseudoeph!!) Hope this helped and you feel better soon!!
