How do I get my Collie to walk beside me while on the lead?

Answer #1

Practice and trainin. walk him everyday and try to shorten the leash so he has to walk right by you.. He will eventually get used to it

Answer #2

Using a general leader might work. It prevents them from speeding in front of you and teaches them to obey you. they may hate it sometimes, but it’s good for them and good for you.

Answer #3

there are two methods you could try. you could do the treat method where you are keeping the dog at your side by keeping a treat in your hand and your hand is at your side where the dog can sniff and lick at the treat. this will keep his or her attenion while you praise him/her ther whole time. and then eventually you can remove the treat all together. since collies don’t take well to harsh treatment. the other method is to keep the leash slack and while walking at a steady pace, if the dog suddenly goes ahead or in front of you, quickly and aburptly turn on a dime and walk in the other direction at the same pace as before. soon the dog will get the messae and follow you and keep pace with you.
