Why has my dog suddenly become aggressive?

I have a twelve year old yellow lab. Lately, she has started trying to bite me sometimes when she is laying down. My dog has NO history whatsoever of biting or aggression, and I am the only one she ever tries to bite. Why is she doing this and how can I stop it?

ANY TIME an animal shows a huge behavior change the first thing I’d do is get it to the Vet. A 12 year old dog could easily be in pain from numerous ailments…from arthritus to liver disease. They usually aren’t as patient as they once were. Chances are high also…that her hearing and eyesight are diminished…so startle easily…always let her know when you coming up on her…if she’s sleeping, don’t cuddle up to her until you awaken her…

These old dogs are wonderful…but just like old people, they need extra care and attention to stay healthy. Get her into the Vet for a geriatric check up.

She may be sick, when animals start acting out of character, it is sometimes a sign of illness

Answer #3

maybe she is in pain, that is a good age for problems to start and bones to hurt, she may need a trip to the vet, blood work and x-rays

Hes just getting old, my dog is getting more and more agressive as he gets older. Also sometimes there is a change in behavior before they die. I hope thats not it tho! :( Good luck

I had the same problem with my huskey. She got aggressive towards my family members and towards strangers as she got older. Though before she used to love everyone and anyone. Aggression towards others does show before they die :[. I also hope that is not the case. Also depending on where you are going to pet your dog she may have iritation. Maybe a cut or sore.
