Why does the date of easter change?

It’s ment to be the anniversary of jesus rising from the dead. So surely it should always be the same date!

Answer #1

It’s designed to coincide with Passover, since the story involves the crucifixion/resurrection happening Passover weekend.

Passover changes on our calendar because Jews still use the Jewish calendar to determine the date of Passover. The Jewish calendar is based on lunar cycles.

Answer #2

Easter is on the first Sunday after the first fourteenth day of the moon (or full moon) in Spring. It does indeed tie in with the Jewish Passover feast because they are both lunar festivals. However, Easter was originally a pagan festival of fertility sacred to the goddess Eostre. It was incorporated by the Christian church like so many other pagan holidays.

Answer #3

This is about the earliest it can ever be. It is always on the first sunday after the first full moon of spring.
