Why does the date of easter change?
It’s ment to be the anniversary of jesus rising from the dead. So surely it should always be the same date!
It’s designed to coincide with Passover, since the story involves the crucifixion/resurrection happening Passover weekend.
Passover changes on our calendar because Jews still use the Jewish calendar to determine the date of Passover. The Jewish calendar is based on lunar cycles.
Easter is on the first Sunday after the first fourteenth day of the moon (or full moon) in Spring. It does indeed tie in with the Jewish Passover feast because they are both lunar festivals. However, Easter was originally a pagan festival of fertility sacred to the goddess Eostre. It was incorporated by the Christian church like so many other pagan holidays.
This is about the earliest it can ever be. It is always on the first sunday after the first full moon of spring.
Hahaha its something stupid like the first weekend after the first full moon of spring… Really random thing, that might not be it but its something like that… lol it stumpped me for the longest time to until a friend researched it and figured it out.
true I suppose it doesn’t matter.
although if it were just put to the nearest sunday it would ony change within 7 days. it changes more than that.
yea it’s always changing to make it always fall on sunday, which is a shame.. but when it comes down to it…who cares?!?! jus glad He rose! lol
why are you questioning a holiday that has rabbits with baskets full of colored eggs?…
The easter bunny is on holiday in April and May, so it had to be a bit earlier this year..
I’m not questioning it. I love choc’ eggs, LOL.
I just wondered.
no it changes every year. sometimes in march sometimes april. it varies.
thanks djwagner. that’s such a weird random thing!
oh thanks, that clears it up.
yea it has to do with the kind of calendar that is used in the Jewish religion and the spring and the moon and stuff like that. Apparently Easter won’t be this early for another 200 years or something.
Probably because of Leap Year. That was this year.
