Why does my USB dongle Freeze my laptop?

I recently bought a dongle (USB wireless) for my laptop and every time I use it (am online) my whole computer will freeze, not allowing me to go into my task manager the only way out is to cut the power and restart, the time online varies it can last for 1 min or half an hour before freezing but always does at some point. I wonder if its because I have windows 7 evaluation copy installed? because I have tried a friend’s dongle and it does the same. Any advice would be great

do you have the most upto date driver for it?

run win update and see if it finds a newer driver… if it doesnt and even if it does go and see if theres a more recent driver on the manufacturers website
