Answer #4

Try different dog food.

Some animal foods have artificial aroma in it. This stuff smells tasty for the dog bit it’s chemical and it will not be digested. So the poop smells just like food for your poor doggie. See if you can get dog food that’s not ‘perfumed’. If you can’t find any, try to get her real meat. You can get it cheap if theres a butcher somwhere near. They sell some parts that humans wont eat (like heart or liver of the cattle) to dog owners. The dog will like it. And its much healthier for her, too.

If they use chemical aroma to make the dog food smell edible, you can never know what’s really in it. You never know if it has any nutrition value for your dog at all. It totally messes up your doggies instincts and senses.

Normally, iits the mother of new pups that eats the poo, I think its because befor they were demesticated they would eat it to avoid preditors

Answer #6

stag3rd: Many animal-moms eat their babys poop, cause that makes sure their nest doesn’t stink and so the predators can’t find the nest by smell. Cats do. Some birds do. Dogs also. But normally, a mammal-mom will only eat poop if her babies drink only milk and don’t have other food yet.

Answer #7

if they eat the fecal matter what do they do about the urine? urine is a much longer lasting scent than fecal matter. also they just smell, purgatorial animals will find them plenty easy without fecal matter to smell.

Answer #8

This is question that puzzles even professionals. Some say it’s from a lack of minerals etc in the diet…some say they learn it from their mother’s cleaning the nest, BUT the simple fact is MANY dogs do this…

Here is a site that will give 20 reasons why they do it..
