Why does my dog Choke in the middle of the night?

I have a 3 year old Whippit and in the middle of the night he starts choking. He has no food at night and he does not have anything to choke on its really weird. He sleeps either on the bottom of the bed or on the floor next to the bed and is so loud he wakes up the whole house. It sounds like he is trying to be sick but he has never thrown up. Whats going on with my poor pooch.

Stress maybe? Our dog used to do that at night or just after we got back from holidays, you best bet will be to speak to your vet and see if you can find what is causing it.
