Why do people judge dogs?

I don’t understand how people judge dogs like mastiff’s as being bad because they aren’t. Its their owners right? I am wanting to do dog psychology and I wanted to know different reason’s why people judge these types of dogs badly. I’d understand if you have small children and didnt want a big dog but also why do people only go for the “good” natured dogs if its only the problem of how the owners treat their dogs not the dogs themeselves

You’re right a Mastiff or other dog breed is not a threat to your health. Read the paper and see what dog breed attacks the most. Not all of that breed are bad but in Russian Roulette not all cylinders are loaded.
Now walk down a dark street in a low life section of town and you see six Catholic Nuns walking toward you or you see six of a widely known ethnic group walking toward you, which do you feel safe facing? People breed Mastiff for a reason - you tell my why. They are bred to protect the alpha male and in their blood they will protect that alpha. Poodles are one of the most mean breeds. Want a good dog go with a setter - Irish, golden or springer or best yet a mutt that has the best of a lot of breeds.

You do not have to teach a pit bull or Mastiff to be mean you have to break it to be gentle but it will always want to protect the alpha.

Dogs are dogs first…then they are breed. Within each breed are “lines”…dogs bred because they are good at a certain job (like a Police Dog, or a Seeing Eye Dog)…two very separte lines within the German Shepherd. Within each “line” there are different personalities…pups from the same litter will not all have the exact personality as the next pup. Next comes the new owner, and that person’s relationship with the dog. Dominant breeds (Pits, GSD’s, Rot’s, Dobie’s, ect) need strong willed owners…that doesn’t equate to abusive, but an owner who will not be pushed around by that dog. A weak willed person with a dominant breed is just as likely to end up with a vicious dog as an abusive person.

The reason many people go for easier breeds (and let’s be thankful they do)…is partly because they have a “fear” of dogs with reputations…or they know their personal limitations (that’s not majority, however). I doubt a lot people even check out the breed of their dog, they go for the looks, or lack of shedding…some “human criteria”…and don’t have a clue as to what this breed did for it’s job. All breeds had a “job” in the beginning…

um actually its the way the owner brings the dog up… thats why I dont understand how people can judge the dogs themselves but not the owners. If you understand dog pyschology, you would understand what I mean.
