How to stop my dog from barking at people?

My dog is about 9 years old and I just recently got her. The previous owner did not take very good care of her, and she is quite afraid of other people and barks viciously when anyone new comes around. Its really embarrassing and I don’t know how to break her of it.

Mine does too! Lol. Except he is 3 years old and just very over protective. We think he’s just trying to protect us, and we also think he’s scared because he barks like a maniac when someone comes over to our house.

She might just be scared of them, and is trying to show she is threatened or scared and she means business. However I have the same problem with my dog, but I’m not sure how to break him of it either. Hopefully someone else can help you better. Sorry that I couldn’t be much more help, but I’m sure someone will find a solution to you question.

yOU NEED TO TAKE HER TO A PARK AND LET HER SEE PEOPLE AND SHOW HER THAT THESE PEOPLE WILL NOT HURT HER. iT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO GET HER USED TO PEOPLE AGAIN SHE WILL SOONER OR LATER. mY FRIEND HAS A DOG THAT USED TO GET ABUSED AND SHE DID THIS EXACT SAME THING IT TOOK ABOUT A MONTH BUT IT WORKED AND NOW THE DOG TRUST a lot OF PEOPLE NOW. jUST NOT THE PERSON THAT ABUSED IT. tRUST ME IT WORKS. YOU SHOULDNT be embarresed she is just trying to protect herself and maby even you. She may think that a person is trying to abuse you. You just to let her get used to people. If she is vichios with them tell them to back off a little and move closer to her a lot slower.

Well, I have 2 dogs myself. My keeshond she’s very gentle,, but she ALSO barks at everything and everybody (except me and my family.) My half douchsond is the same with your dog. She got beaten up when she was a puppy I felt so sorry she barks as well as my keeshond barks first.

Try and be gentle. Training will take lots and lots of practice. Might want to by those colors that when they bark you can push a button and make them stop. I forgot what their called.
