How can I get my new dog to calm down around people?

How can I get my new dog that is scared of everyone to let people hold it And let people love on it?

Generally, if you get an animal that tends to shy away from people, this could very well be an indication that something may have happened to this animal prior to your ownership of it.
And when that is the case, you will need to give the animal extra attention, extra loving and extra time to reassure the animal that you are not going to hurt him and in time, the animal will come to relax, and feel safe and secure and with that, he can start to feel ok around other people. But you must be patient…

love it and give it time. start by just socializing it to one or two people. like have two friends come over and watch a movie with you, with the dog in the room or by the couch [on your lap?]. then just slowly introduce it to people until it feels comfortable.

Sounds like your dog’s a bit skiddish. We have a dog that used to do that too. He was kicked by a horse before we got him and he is very timid and shys away from people. The best thing we did after he integrated with our other dog was we just used words of encouragement. Also, constant training and affirmation helped. He is still a bit wary of strangers but I think it’s a healthy thing. When people come over we try not to stress about it because the dog does pick up on it quite quickly then you might as well call it a night. Be patient with your dog it’ll take time and the dog will be better for it. Also, try a vet recommended trainer who might offer some other advice. Good Luck. “woof” My dogs say hello too. :)
