Why do girls take verbal abuse from their boyfriends?

Okay so my best friend has this older boyfriend. He always insults her in front of people and can be disrespectful. Kind of like verbal abuse. He is also very controlling at times. She gets mad at him for like ten minutes and then she forgives him and they makeup and kiss again. Like what is the deal because it keeps happening. Doesnt she know he is just going to put her in tears again??

Sometimes they’ve grown up in an environment where they believe that controlling behavior is a sign of love. And if a guy isnt controlling, then they dont care about you.

Sometimes it’s low self worth. They dont think they deserve better. I know this girl who thinks every guy she’s with will cheat on her, and it’s ok as long as it isnt a regular thing.

Sometimes they think it is normal behavior and every guy is like that.

Sometimes they’ve been beaten (not literally) into submission, into believing that they are worthless and no one else could love them (of course, if they are that unlovable, then why is their douche bag of a boyfriend still with them)

Yes, she’s not stupid. She hopes it wont happen again. She knows it probably will. But she thinks it’s too painful to be without him. And what if she doesnt find someone else. There’s no point in approaching this directly. She needs to work on her self-esteem, sense of self worth, be around people who are respectful, guys who treat their girlfriends well…
