Why do Christians worship Jesus and not God himself?

sorry to ask. but, christians believe that Jesus in the SON of god. Then why do you guys worship Jesus and not the GOD himself?

Answer #1

you got some great answers here and I’d also like to add that we worship Jesus because He is what connects us to God. Jesus is the only way we can get to God and communicate with Him bc we’d been separated from Him (God). So if we worshiped God only and not Jesus, none of it would get to Him (God) and so would be a waste of time. and all the other stuff they said too. take care!

Answer #2

You’ve got a lot of good answers. Yep. Jesus IS God in the flesh. God don’t need a son in the same way that we have children. The “SON” of God is translated the “Manifestation” of God. He who honors not the Son, honors not the Father. Jesus said “I Am The Way”

Answer #3

lol. oh my. yeah. I am confused ..

Answer #4

because jesus god and the holy spirit are all one person, the holy trinity

Answer #5

Hi again, Mirra,

Yep, I spent my last email explaining why we worship Jesus - because he is God.

But you’re right - the next question is Why is he called the Son of God, then?

Partly , the answer is complicated and requires faith. You’re a person of faith so I’m sure you understand that there are things of God beyond our understanding.

But the other part of answer is pretty simple, so I’ll tackle that part!

The people who have mentioned the Trinity are absolutely right. The Trinity (meaning ‘threefoldness’!) basically describes the character and actions of God in three main forms. This is similar in some ways to the 99 names of Allah, although obviously there’s a significant difference , too.

So the Trinity is God. One God in three distinct forms, but always the same personality and character. These three forms are:

God - the Father (Creator, Most High, Sustainer, Protector - I’ve looked at the names of Allah and these correspond well with our understanding of God as Father).

God - the Son (Creator too, but also Teacher, Saviour, Redeemer, Lord and Judge). The Bible teaches that the distance between humans and God was too great for the relationship of love and forgiveness that God wanted with us. So he, in his amazing mercy, came to live as a human with us. He showed us God in human form, face to face, and died to forgive us, bridging that huge gulf between human failures and God’s perfection. This is not at all similar to Muslim belief, but it is the Christian’s main strength, because it is through God the Son’s sacrifice that we are now God’s children.

God - the Holy Spirit (again the Creator, but basically the spirit of God as he works in the world and in people, as a Witness, as Strength, as the Challenger and Comforter of his people).

That is the Holy Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (‘Ghost’ is just an old fashioned word for Spirit, of course).

Part of it is mystery, but part of it is fairly comprehendable. For example, when my sons were small, they saw me only as ‘Mummy’. They would have found it hard to understand that to many more children I was not ‘Mummy’ but ‘Teacher’. They also only barely understood that alongside ‘Mummy’ I could also be ‘Wife’ to their father. To you and me that kind of varying of the roles in life (Mummy/Teacher/Wife) is fairly obvious but to a small child it is quite mysterious and even rather threatening. We are child-like in our understanding of God (Father/Son/Spirit) , so if we can’t quite grasp everything about him it’s not something to fear.

Legion is, by the way, happy to agree with your confusion about Christian beliefs, but I presume you’ve noticed, through his other posts, that he’d also like you to question your own faith. You and I are basically speaking from a position of faith, and he, I think, believes that faith in things not provable is ludicrous. Is that a fair statement of your position, Legion?

1 Samuel 12 :11-17

The Hebrews wouldnt accept a non-human ruler; they wanted a human king. Jesus is the response to this, that is why he referred to himself as the “Son of Man”.

Answer #7

This is a good question! Right now I’ve got a thumping headache, so I’ll get round to giving you a proper reply later (it’s not the sort of thing to answer lightly, obviously). Thanks for asking and I hope you get many helpful replies.

Answer #8

They worship both.

Answer #9

so whose the SON of god ?? this is really confusing for me !

Answer #10

the trinity: god the father, the son and the holy ghost!!!

Answer #11

but how can jesus, god and the holy spirit be the same?

Answer #12

Think its because the God send Jesus down. And Jesus die on the cross and he suffer a lot.^^

Answer #13

The question is tricky because when Christians worship, Christians worship Jesus as God, God as Jesus…as one tribune God, period…not as 2 different gods or human beings.

So the reality is, Christians worship Jesus as God himself, and God himself as Jesus…Christians always worship God himself, and Christians always worship Jesus.

This is confusing to humans because Jesus is God and was human, but the rest of us are simply human, but not God.

If we were God, I think we could understand better, but as we are human, this will stay confusing for most.

Answer #14

If you want the simple answer I will tell you. Christians worship Jesus and not God (Krishna) Himself because, Christians don’t know who God is. Jesus never told people who God was, what his name was, or what he looked like because the people of that time would not be able to understand it.

Answer #15

Jesus is the image of the invisible God. The Bible teaches that God gave Jesus the name above all names that at the name of Jesus every knee would bow to the glory of God the Father. By worshipping Jesus as we are commanded, we bring glory to God. Jesus is also a member of the trinity. God the Father (only seen twice in the Bible, portrayed himself as a pillar of fire or a burning torch because no man can look upon his face or he will die), God the Son(Jesus Christ, the image of the invisible God, called Emmanuel in Matthew which means God with us), and God the Holy Spirit(the spirit of God that lives in all believers, literally translates as God in us) form the trinity. They are the same being, but are set forth as three seperate entites, indepentdently working together. This may sound like a huge paradox, but it one of the mysteries of the Bible that we cannot comprhend, just like the truth that God had no beginning, he was always there. The only time in scripture where the trinity were all at the same place was at the Baptism of Jesus. Jesus is God the Son, God the father spoke when Jesus came up out of the water, and God the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove. In Christ, David

Answer #17

christians worshiip God and Jesus jesus is Gods son so he is a god too and in the bible it talks about God and jesusu in different ways

Answer #18

Christians believe in in the Godhead..or trinity which means God is three in one..God the Father God the son ( Jesus) and then God the Holy spirit ( when you are saved you are givein the Holy spirit to dwell with in you so God dwells with in you.

Christians worship Jesus because he is God in the flesh…you see as Christians we believe that When saten fall and eve and Adam listen to him and sined God cursed the world for the punishment of sins is death..and because they sin For by one mans sins sin was born into the world and passed on from generation to through are blood..it is taqinted with their original sin..the bible say that the only way to get into heaven is to be sinless and the only way some one can do that is through christ who did what we couldn’t he was born of God and so with out Sin he lives a sinless life and then on the cross he died for our sins so that we would be forgiven …the bible says that God loves us so much he would die for us so that we may have ever lastting life with him in heaven not go to hell…Christ did what only God could do..but they are the same… it is not an easy concept and takes time to understand time and a lot of bible study.

Answer #19

OK, I’m back, minus the headache. Hope you are well.

First question: Should we worship someone who is not God? Muslims, Christains, Jews etc would all answer NO.

Second question: Does this mean the Christians worship Jesus because they believe he is God? Answer: YES

Third questions: Are Christians wrong?

My answer to this is based on what Jesus said about himself - what he let people believe about himself during his time on earth.

To a modern reader, we can read the life of Jesus in the gospels and never once hear him categorically state ‘I am God’. So, many people use that fact to claim he is not God.

Instead, we need to look at how the people of the time understood what he said - they were the first ones he spoke to and they know how to interpret what he said.

Firstly, he said ‘I AM the way, the truth and the light,’ ‘I AM the good shepherd,’, ‘I AM the true vine’ and many other comments like that. This sounds like no big deal to our 21st century ears, but to the people who heard him at the time they were either amazed and excited or horrified at his blasphemy because: who is ‘I AM’? It is the name for God himself - the one he told first to Moses. When the people heard him speaking about himself like that, they either followed him as Lord or they hated him for blasphemy. The Jews asked for him to be executed because of this blasphemy.

The things he did also gave messages we can’t ‘read’ any more. The Old Testament says only God can control the weather. So Jesus calmed a storm of Lake Galilee. The Old Testament says only God can create, so Jesus created wine from water and food for 5000 from one packed lunch. The people of the time ‘read’ these signs to mean that he was working with God’s power.

So, Jesus did say he was God.

Now we have two choices: he was telling the truth or he was mad/lying.

Islam recognises Jesus as an important prophet. Humanists generally recognise him as a ‘good man’. Now, was this great prophet/good man also mad or a liar?

The only alternative is that he was telling the truth and he is God.

Answer #20

Many Christians worship Jesus instead of God because they have lost the way. They have fallen from the truth. Yes, Jesus did die for our sins and through that provided a path for many to go to Heaven, but men have become too focused on a selfless act they themselves would never do that they have chosen to ignore the message that Jesus himself was delivering (Matthew 4:10 - “You shall worship the Lord your God and only Him shall you serve.”)
