troy_russel: people define vegetarian various ways but the most common definition is someone who abstains from meat including fish and fowl. The majority of vegetarians are the lacto-ovo variety meaning they still eat dairy and eggs.

Veganism is more than just a diet; vegans do not eat or use any animal products wherever possible.

Someone who doesn’t eat any animal products but still uses animal items like leather, fur, etc. is sometimes called a pure vegetarian.

The term vegetarian was popularized by The Vegetarian Society which formed in 1848. Prior to that people who abstained from meat were more commonly referred to as pythagoreans. This is because the Greek mathematician, statistician, and philosopher Pythagoras and his followers did not eat meat.

Answer #3

A vegetarian is a person who eats only vegetation, which is another word for plants. Eggs, chickens, and fish are not plants. They are animals. Therefore a vegetarian does not eat eggs, chickens, or fish. And a vegan is a person who not only does not eat animals or animals products, but also does not use any sort of animal product. For example, a vegan does not wear a leather belt or leather shoes.

Answer #4

There are many variations on who defines themselves as vegetarians. Many do eat eggs and dairy, some eat fish, and so forth. But in the strictest sense, as it pertains to your question, a vegetarian does not want to eat any animal products, not just those products that were produced in inhumane conditions. The idea of eating animals or animal products, to some, is morally abhorrent and physically repugnant.

It would be like offering you a slice of cheese made from human milk and explaining it’s not at all gross because the mother from which it was harvested was living a happy life.

Answer #5

eggs are considered MEAT, that is why vegans don’t eat eggs.
