Who thinks these things have contributed to depression, suicide, etc?

I’ve been researching suicide statistics in the last decade(canada) and it seems that girls have a much higher rate than guys. Does anyone think it may be because Beauty is being looked up to and admired so much? I know that guys can be self conscious too but I think girls pay more attention to that kind of stuff, Watch shows about modelling and care a lot! I just feel that its setting a standard and making girls think that they arent beautiful, or skinny because they dont look all photoshopped and barbie-ish. Why is it that being a real girl is looked down upon in this society?? I just think that it really sucks this is what society has come to… In the stats the suicide rates have definitely gone up VAST amounts!! And so basically my question is do you think the shows that have been introduced in the last decade or so(maybe a bit more)about modelling, plastic surgery, and stuff have contributed to depression, suicide and eating disorders because this is what they’ve been advertising?? I just think that society has set this rediculously high standard and its starting to consume people

I find this very funny that girl that a girl as young as you figured this out alone.

Okay, if you haven’t noticed, men have been in control of society for ages. It’s always been like that, I am yet to hear a female president in modern times. Since men are in control, women are basically epitomes of the figment of man’s imagination.

Women for centuries have more of the face as property than real people. I’m sure you’ve noticed that a women is held to less regard if she is not a virgin, also, I am yet to here of a male slut that is frowned upon. It’s like dichotomy, a double standard. If you see the gender equity today, you notice that a women that have a lot of sexual partners are looked down upon, while the male is lionized. A lot of sexism is towards women, some jobs in the United States are mainly dominated by men and it’s almost unheard of women to get a job in that particular work field.

In societies terms, women are merely objects that provide for children and are supposed to be housewives. A lot of religious-promoted morals and dichotomy has laid waste to women. Being that men are the ones in control, whatever is seen right by them is what women have to follow or else they’ll be seen as sluts and wh-res. As time goes on, the definition that women need to follow changes according to the needs of men. Whatever floats the mans boat is what the women needs to follow. This means that ridiculously skinny girls with barbie like faces are the new in.

I would say that the media plays a big role in how women turn out to be. Women are pressured to believe that none are beautiful and only the ones on television are. Basically telling women that they have to be the equal of the t.v. girl to get an attractive man. When I look at the modern structure of the ‘’supposed-to-be’’ couple, the only thing that comes to mind is ‘’Powerful husband, beautiful wife’’.

This structure, plus the media giving women the notion that they’re not beautiful can lead women to do some pretty drastic things if you ask me.

Yeah I do think that. Girls care way more than guys on how they look, they get heart brocken by guys they think is their love for ever, they get more taken advantage of e.c.t. In shows they show how they eliminate not perty enuff girls. You never see a girl on tv shows, or on a magazine that is not slim and picture perfect. Girls want to look like that and guys want a girl like that, and when girls don’t look like that it makes them feel that they are worth nothing and that nobody is going to want them. Girls are also a target of abuse, all caind of abuse, and most of them are treaten, and mostly don’t open up about it. girls get pregnet and then dumbed, end up with a brocken heart and suffering. Also changes also affect a girl because all that she is going trough and everything that is around her, peer pressure, she wants to be perfect, wants to be popular, wants to be buitiful, wants to have the perfect boyfriend e.c.t

I really do agree!!! But I think the reason why we are pressured so much is because we all want to find a guy…We all want to be called BEAUTIFUL but I do not think people should care that much about beauty to give into peer pressure of sex, drugs, drinking, etc.

Teenage girl(s) like myself also get really stressed.Have TONS of dramaa. Have to put up with stuck up chicks…

But I do agree 100 PERCENT!!!
