Who thinks religion causes conflict?

Do you think 1. religion causes conflict or 2. do you think its used by politicians as an excuse to create war and violence? I personally think its the second one.

thanks(:

Answer #1

Both. It all depends on the religion and the person. Some sects of religions cause conflict because that sect tells it’s followers that’s what’s right, and some people {not just politicians} spend their time trying to find things in their religion that they use as an excuse to cause conflict. When it comes to religious conflict, sometimes it’s the religion causing the conflict by using it’s followers, and then other times it’s the followers causing conflict by using their religion.

Answer #2

Neither. The two choices you are offering present a very limited, very bigoted view of the world that is painting you as having a very narrow view. Most people on the planet subscribe to some form of faith, and most people are peaceful and respectful. It may seem that there is a great deal of conflict in the world, but out of 7 billion individuals, how many are fighting with one another at any one time? Religion helps bring peace to more people than it aggravates.

Besides, any politician who actively sought to create war and violence would not remain a politician for very long, at least not in a democratic nation. By and large, humans have a very low tolerance for war.

Answer #3

I think that religion does cause conflict… many times there are different believers and they want to make their religion a big thing, but religion does cost conflicts how many times have you seen people fight because of it? Many times so I would say it can cause conflict but I think that we have learned to all live whit it…

Answer #4

I would say it does. In christain veiw it love mercy and grace of the Almighty God conflicts with the sin of our world. But every one has a god even atheist. For example Money sex drugs. If uake any of these the center and habbit of your life then that is your god. you can’t serve to masters God vs. Money one or the other not both

Answer #5

religion will always cause conflict because we all have a different way of viewing the world. some politicians maybe, but not really. politicians are weird and do any and everything they want.

Answer #6

Look back at most of the worlds major wars an Religion is always a main Factor. Read the Bible, Theres are several wars because God told them to do so.

Ji-Had is a Holy War which is what the people of the MIddle East are saying they are fighting.

Also, Politicians always use religion to try and swing that religious group in their favor.

Answer #7

yes, I think religion causes conflict. If someone believes in God and Satan..Satan will try and pull you away from God because satan is the root of all evil and knows what your weak at. But if you have total trust in God than Satan really can’t harm you..he can still try tho. He wont win.

Answer #8

it does, I wish people would accept other religions I mean its not like trying to disregard them means they will go away, separate beliefs will always be there. I accept Christianity, Muslim, Hindu, e.c.t But then again I believe all religions are correct but only correct to the indervidual who believes it

Answer #9

I don’t think that religion causes conflict. I think that MAN causes conflict. If we weren’t here then there wouldn’t be conflict in the world. Also you do get peaceful religions out there as well as people who practice less peaceful religions peacefully.

Also there is no one on this earth that can explain or figure out the inner workings of the minds of politicians. So yes, they can/could use religion as an excuse to start a war, yet that is all the religion would be to them, an excuse.

oh and for the rest I agree with mikeh.

Answer #10

I’d say it causes conflict yes. Begin to analyse any individual country and the perverse and all pervasive affects of religion are clear to see. Take the UK for example, with the various religions encouraging faith schools and the government of course too eager to please and have an easy life. The results of which is that the Catholic school I went to was all white (except for one lady), Muslim schools are presumably mostly consisting of Pakistanis, how is that good for race relations and social cohesion in the long term. So I’d say religion encourages segregation for a very start. The white people stick to themselves here, and so do the various other communities, and religion is partly to blame for emphasising differences between peoples.

Answer #11

All you have to do is read the bible and any historical record of those times and you will see how many wars, just during that time, was started because of religion or “In the name of God”.

Everyone beleive God is on their side. Whether that God be God, Allah, Muhammed, etc. This realization came to me a few years ago when this current war started. All you heard everywhere was that we would win because God was on our side.

And yet…the other side fully believe that they will win because Allah is on their side. So…who is right? Who is wrong?

And then it goes back to what KIND of God do you believe in? A peaceful, loving God or a vengeful, angry God. How could a peaceful, loving God support either side in a bloody war???

Religion might not be the sole reason for most wars but they always have to throw it in somewhere becasue if they dont, then they can not justify the killing. Most people are not brutal killers, even if they are in the military and trained to do so. Saying that this is “For God and Country” alleviates some of that guilt.

But religion has been the cause of more bad than good. There is NOTHING good about religion. NOTHING! It causes countless problems. Even with the people who ascribe to it. And they ALL think they are completely right, everyone else is wrong, and it is only they who will see the kingdom of heaven. I cant wait to get to heaven to see all the shocked faces!!! LOL!

I have been involved in church and relgion most of my life. Thats why I am not involved in it any longer and I actually feel sorry for those who think they HAVE to go to church or be a part of religion. God is not a part of religion. God wants nothing to do with it. Frankly, I think Satan came up with religion. Because what I have seen of it, it is STRAIGHT from the devil!

Answer #12

Man causes conflict, not religion. There are very few religions that have weathered the trials of time that actually encourage conflict.

I mean, if everyone was “segregated” by their religion, then we wouldn’t have all the tribes in the Middle East fighting each other, neither in the ancient past nor the present. England and France were predominately Roman Catholic during the Dark and Medieval Ages, yet they just couldn’t leave each other alone.

Honestly, I don’t think the God I believe in takes sides. Man ultimately creates his own destiny, and there must be a balancing factor to make sure we don’t flat out destroy ourselves(which we can, and have been able to do, for mellenia).

Answer #13

Religion doesn’t cause conflict, people cause conflict. And yes it is used as an excuse but what isn’t nowa days?

Answer #14

Yes to both. The difference in religions causes conflict. Politicians use this conflict to their advantage when pushing their agendas.

Answer #15

Yes to both.

Religion teaches peace, but all or most of them are willing to fight and die in the name of their gods!

So do religion then truly teach peace or is it their way of controlling the masses???

Answer #16

Neither, as I believe MAN creates conflict. The 3 Semitic religions; Islam, Christianity and Judaism all promote peace and harmony amongst each other. If people listened and followed their religions correctly than all the problems of today wouldn’t exist. Jews wouldn’t be massacring innocent Palestinians (Muslims and Christians) in Gaza and the West Bank, then there would be no retaliation. Christians wouldn’t be trying to exterminate Muslims from Europe, in the past, eg Bosnia, Chechnya and the present day fighting. Hindus and Muslims and Christians wouldn’t be fighting in India. It is because people put mundane, trivial pursuits in front of God.

Otherwise there would be harmony on this planet.

Answer #17

musleemah - I notice in your answer that you use the word ‘massacring’ in relation to what the jews are doing and the word ‘exterminate’ in relation to what christians are doing but when relating what hindus and muslims are doing you just use the word ‘fighting’. Seems to be a bit of ‘conflict’ there and it stems from your religious belief…

Answer #18

Well just about all wars have been started by religion. But the biggest wars have been Between the Roman Christian Church and the Catholic Church and yes they are the same religion but the reason for the wars were the Roman christen church did not like the way the Catholic Church were teaching the bible and that’s when Christianity was formed.

Answer #19

religion does cause conflict. right now christians are attackin muslims and making them look bad, lots of christians dont even know their own religion. btw im atheist. and christians believe atheists believe in the devil. makes me laugh…haha. lol

Answer #20

kinda on both. these conflicts normally happen because of cultural differences, religion adds to it. and religion has been used as an excuse of war since the begginning of history. But over all, I think religion stops more conflics than starts them.
