religion doesnt cause war

does religion cuase war? if you think so.. explain.

Answer #1

Evil uses the guise/cloak of religion for it’s own destructive purposes.

Answer #2

how about this.. its from my world religions essay I wrote last semester… September 11th 2001, was a day in history that shocked the world. The attack that took place against America was done by a terrorist group known as Al-Qaeda, led Osama Bin Laden. Osama Bin Laden is a brown skinned militant Islamist from Saudi Arabia. He is a man who believes in “Allah” and practices the religion of Islam, and he is the one that attacked a nation. The attack was done by him, and those in al-Qaeda, Not those of a Muslim faith, or country. The main goals of Al-Qaeda “ al-Qaeda are to drive Americans and American influence out of all Muslim nations, especially Saudi Arabia; destroy Israel; and topple pro-Western dictatorships around the Middle East”[1]. These goals are those of Al-Qaeda, not the Islamic religion. The attacks triggered an invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq Known as the “war on terrorism” this was President George W. Bush’s Idea. The U.S Government isn’t a religious based monarchy. They do however make reference to the Christian faith. The president’s decision was given the okay by the rest of the federal government. This brought war, and all because of one man’s goal to destroy a nation, and another man’s desire for revenge. Religion has nothing to do with “why we fight” merely the blessing we wish to receive while “we fight”

Answer #3

religion has caused nearly every war there has been (with some exceptions of course). the crusades- muslims vs. christians- I believe there were like 5 or 6 separate crusades. it could be said that the way the missionaries were treating the native americans- trying to “civilize” them and bring them to christ inspired the indian wars in our country. most war slogans contained the words “ for god and country” if you truly take a good hard look into history- you will see the influence that religion has had in if not causing the war outright- then at least fanning the flames. more people have died in the name of an “organized religion” than from most other causes, more people have been slaughtered in the name of organized religion as well because they would not convert- and the only option given by “the messengers of god” was to convert - or die. thou shalt not kill- a testament to the hypocrisy of organized religion.

Answer #4

I actually know quite a bit of athiest going to war all my friends going to the armed forces(& hoping to go to war) are either atheist or agnostic. Not all war is from religion, but a lot are.

Answer #5

Religion is not the cause of all wars, but it is the cause of some, and plays a role in most.

Think about it…if the average soldier had no false hopes of an afterlife, how many of them would willingly fight? Some would of course (there are atheists in foxholes), but not many.

Answer #6

for once I agree with amblessed, well partially… I wouldnt go as far to call it evil, however I think wars are caused by greed (for wealth, power, whatever), to fight oppression, etc etc and people use religion as an excuse… however, I guess the real question would be,if there was no religion would they use something else as an excuse and would they have been as successful?

Answer #7

Evil? its the religion its self.

Answer #8

Evil? its the religion its self.

Answer #9

yea absolutly just look around the world. past and present. To say religion dosen’t cause war is to be blind to the world

Answer #10

srry last two comments did not answer the question was responding to peoples comments to your question

well I think religion can cause war when its a theocracy or some government that has religion and state combine

The reason sometimes religion starts war is that its the same for all beliefs no matter if religious people believe theirs should be dominate and want to crush the oppossition that or some doctrine taught that says go out and conquer

Answer #11

More wars have been fought in the name of greed and conquest then any belief in a god. Just because some soldiers have religious views doesnt mean they are fighting a war based on religion. Even so called religious wars are secular in nature. Most wars are secular no matter the reason or the cause to which they claim.
It’s ignorant to think that religion plays a major role in war and a very poor understanding of peoples motivations to go to war

Answer #12

Notice it’s mostly if not the biblical religions that have caused wars. They’ve fought with witches, slaughtered the Natives, almost entirely wiped out the Mayans(they killed women & men because Both fought in wars & killed the children so they wouldn’t seek revenge! Those your did survive, if any, wouldn’t know they are Mayan), Aztec, the ancient natives I guess you could say, the “holy” crusades, Even wars with each other! Christians VS Jews, religions in the Holy lands feuding, Hell, the war we’re fighting NOW was caused by religious delusion. Family members are disowned for not believing or marying someone not of the same religion, lovers break up do to religous diffrences. One really must be blind to say that biblical religion doesn’t cause wars or problems

Answer #13

very true. all you have to do is look within the so called “holy books” these texts are full of warfare. the rebel angels war- resulting in expulsion from heaven of lucifer and his legions.

the siege of jericho.

probably the first W.M.D.- the ark of the covenant.

these organized religions preach peace and tolerance- only to try and delude and dissuade any “other” group from attacking them.

check out the torture devices of the inquisition, they wanted to create things so horrorendous that everyone would have to believe under fear of torture and death.

the institutions of islam, christianity, judaiism- nothing but WAR MACHINES.

Answer #14

I think the history of Europe alone shows that religion does, in fact, cause war.

Answer #15

(its ignorant to assume religion plays a major role in war)

Well that was a response to someones comment but yah I think wars are usually for the basics land fighting oppression and for government.

Answer #16

Yes it does. If you think of it, it always was the cause of war. Since the beginning of time, when religion became known to humans, there was many troubles. First off there was the conflict of who practices the right or wrong relgion. Everyone says that their relgion is right. And when asked to prove it, they can’t. Therefore things end with war. Tragic, but true. Even today, look at how religion is messing up our lives.

Answer #17

I myself, think religion has a major role in war. If you think about it the crusades were because the catholics wanted jerusalem back from the jews… apparently god told the pope to take back what was originally theirs…all this happened ironically when the catholic faith needed money and more land… The American revolution was partially because Great Britain wouldn’t let the people choose their religion. They said to stray from the norm was heresy. The French revolution was basically in the same category. WW2 Hitler said his god had shown him a vision to make the superior race. Though he may have been crazy yes, however, he still used religion as an out and said he was shown the way by his relgious leader. Now we are at the war today the War on Terrism which the Islamic faith simply said Allah is raining his vengence down on the eagle…simply put something that is suppose to provide comfort and love has caused much hurt and sorrow.
