a good place to start is to become an EMT, and get a good foundation for the medical field. after taking the EMT course it is a little easier when you jump into the nursing classes. you will know a little bit about what to expect when people are brought into the emergency room, and have a rudimentary understanding of the human body and how it works and what it is telling you through reading the vital signs.

the EMT training I took was a 5 month course- and covered a lot of emergency injuries and medical problems, and taught us how to stabilize patients for transport to the emergency room as well as taking vitals and taking care of the patient mental well being.

I believe the title is similiar to - emergency room receiving nurse- it is the person that I as an EMT give the SAMPLE history and other information to upon arrival at the hospital and need to have that persons signature on our paperwork when I transfer the patient care.
