When will my cat be comfortable with my new pup?

My cat mongo is 9 months old and he really takes to my husband. I’ve just closed an adoption on a 6 month old pup (pearl) she is very sweet. I’m afraid my cat might be mean to her because she is invading on his space. How should I introduce them to each other and what are some ways I could help them both to cope with the new change?

I had had a dog that was like 7 and we got a cat and they where fine… best of frieneds.

But your dog and cat are different. I think they will be okay.

just pin the puppy up before you get the cat so that way you can have something in between them.

Answer #2

Get a towel and rub it on the cat first and then rub it on the dog.Do this a couple times a day use the same towel and don’t wash it till it works.I know it sounds stupid but I got this from a vet and it worked great. The idea is to get the cats scent on the dog.Good luck…

Answer #3

Being that your cat is still pretty young, it should be able to adjust to the puppy. An important thing though is making sure that your cat has some where it can go to feel safe if it wants to get aware from the puppy. Also, cats can be territorial so having a place that the cat can consider its own will help it adjust.

Best of luck.

Thanks guys =)

Answer #5

Keep them separated, so they can become aquainted thru a baby gate…cats are territorial, and can be hazardous to small puppy, if they’re inclined…
